Hi
I had DIPS (direct intrahepatic portacaval shunt) procedure earlier this year. I know it’s a slightly different procedure but it’s changed my life completely.
Personally I didn’t find it hugely invasive or painful. It was done under general anaesthetic, I felt pretty much back to normal the next day. I had a very mild discomfort for about 6 weeks after and that slowly went away. It’s early days and I’m being kept a close eye on, but fingers crossed it’s an effective intervention.
As with everything I suppose it very much depends on the individual, the condition being treated and and overall health.
If there’s anything specific you’d like to know I’ll try my best to help, and I’m sure others will have a better understanding.
Thank you for your reply. Can you tell me how long you waited to get it done after the desition was made to do it, and also how long were you in hospital. Thank you
Of course - I’d had a few weeks of tests / scans which led to a trans-jugular biopsy. A week later I was having the procedure. That was Monday and I was discharged on the Saturday.
No complications from the procedure but I had a high temperature & low blood count for a few days. Felt completely fine in myself. Think I’d have been out slightly earlier without that.
Thank you for your reply.. It's a secret minefield. X
It’s a lot to navigate. There’s great support here.
I’m sure your husbands medical team will be able to answer more specifics. I was treated at QEHB and communication was fantastic. Always felt like I could ask questions and ask for things to be explained again. Whilst I kept a calm face inside my mind was working 100mph! I think the patience and communication makes a huge difference.
I have mentioned this procedure on my website. The video I've had to use is from America as I couldn't find any made in the UK. The procedure I suspect is simular to the one shown, it may explain what and why this needs to be done. This video is at the bottom if the page, and is best viewed in full screen mode.
Hope this helps: taep.co.uk/medical%20conseq...
Thank you, I'll watch it x
