How long on average is the waiting list please? Does it depend on how ill you are?

Hello,

Hello,

Hope you are well.

You don't say in which country you live, however, if you are in the UK, the best place to find out the facts is from the organisation that coordinates organ donation and transplantation the UK. This is the NHS Blood and Transplant department.

There is a link to their latest annual report on the British Liver Trust website. The answer to your question is to be found on page 20 of the report.

This is the link

nhsbtdbe.blob.core.windows....

Also, here is a link to The British Liver Trust which explains the new system for allocation of livers for transplant.

Hope this helps,

Jim

For information about the UKELD score have a look at :- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unite...

However under the new allocation system, UKELD is not longer a deciding factor whereas it used to be.

I waited 3 months for my transplant after I had all the tests and was put on the register but I have a very common blood group and was very ill. I got my new liver on the forth trip into kings for possible transplant. Be ready for a major rollercoaster of emotions ( it turned me into a crying wreck ) if you don't get the transplant the first time you get called into hospital for the surgery. good luck and stay well. wishing you the best. dan

My son is 16 and had a hepatocellular carcinoma and waited 18 days. I was expecting about 3 months realistically so it was a shock!

I was on the list at Kings last year and waited 3 months. I was quite well I think at the time. Previously I had a TIPS previously for portal hypertension. Best of luck and I hope your wait is not too much longer
