Try to join the AIH Facebook group. There are plenty of people on there who will be able to answer this question specifically. There are people with both conditions present in the group and they will be well placed to give you specific advice. :)

That's good about azathioprine. The immunosuppressant does have pregnancy contraindicated. Anyway, l found l was pregnant the week l was due a liver biopsy. It wasn't clear what was wrong and l had some unusual bloods. The biopsy was postponed,in fact the baby was a year old. I also had an ERCP to check my bile ducts. At that time l had no scarring. A while later, maybe a decade, l had another biopsy and that showed quite bad fibrosis. That's when l started treatment.

My diagnosis is slightly unusual as l am negative for AMA and have features of PBC and AIH on the biopsy. The treatment is the same. I was on steroids and am now on an immunosuppressant and urso.

Sorry, that should say 'the immunosuppressant l am on'. It's not azathioprine I am on as azathioprine made me very ill.

I think you shouldn't try to conceive whilst on these medications. You need to discuss this with your doctor. I had my last child after my diagnosis BUT was not on treatment at that time.

My dx is Autoimmune Cholangiopathy, which is AIH/PBC when the person's ' blood is negative for AMA. The majority of people with PBC have AMA. i.e. Antimitochondrial Antibody. The doctors knew from blood tests that l had autoimmune liver disease but couldn't identify which one without a biopsy. As l was pregnant they waited to do the biopsy till after the baby came. I delayed it for a year as my mother was dying and l had 4 children under 8!! The drs wanted to do it sooner. In fact the label after the first biopsy was different to what it is now. The first biopsy showed PSC which tend to develop faster. Since the 2nd biopsy (5 years ago) and the fact l'm alive and not extremely ill they are more sure it is AIC l have.
