Without knowing any further details - with those two numbers you should talk to a doctor.
If you're drinking you need to stop and retest after a few weeks.
That's literally about all that can usefully be said. Any opinion as to whether they are high or low in the absence of any details about the patient might well be very misleading.
Your blood pressure and cholesterol meds might affect the results. Have you had your scan yet and have to stopped drinking to see if that helps.
Hi Carolyn! On your lab report, there should be a normal range next to these numbers. Every lab can have a different scale. My lab considers 0-32 the normal range for ALT, so 143 would be pretty high and indicate liver cell damage. But, every lab is different.
Elevated GGT and ALT tell us that further testing should be done, like a fibroscan or other imaging. This will let you know if the cell damage is minimal and can be reversed with healthy diet, exercise, and abstaining from alcohol. Or, the scan could reveal that scarring (cirrhosis) is present. Scarring cannot be reversed, but a scarred liver can continue to function if you take good care of it.
I hope that helps.
Morning
Those are 2 Liver enzymes which show your Liver could possibly be inflamed, although those are also found in the kidneys and heart. With out more information its hard to tell you much. The honest answer is no good ever came from raised enzymes, if its a short term thing such as bolly is suggesting then it will likely be a case of stopping the meds and your Liver recovers and you go about your healthy life. If you have had these raised for a decade then its likely your liver has some serious damage.
It terms of inflammation those levels arent very high, although the ALT is more concerning because its 5 times the limit. I have seen ALT at 2000-3000 in acute Liver damage, those levels would be life threatening though.
As with all medical issues all the information has to be collected and then a diagnosis made, one single Liver test (of which most of it is missing) will not be enough to get you a diagnosis. If you are a big drinker then its likely alcohol, if could be NAFLD, Hepatitis c,b etc, autoimmune issues.
The next steps would be something like; stop the meds, get an ultrasound or even better a FIbroscan, some monthly bloods to see which direction things are heading and maybe some test for Hepc and autoimmune issues.
