Hi , ive recently been diagnosed with ... - British Liver Trust
Hi , ive recently been diagnosed with Fatty liver disease , im due to have a biopsy on the 6-9-13, would like a heads up about this please .
Hi,
I was diagnosed with Fatty Liver in January. I have not been for a biopsy and I assume that is what you need advice about. I didn't think they did that for FL, perhaps someone can advise further,
Hi. The protocols will vary between hospitals. The only definitive diagnosis is with a biopsy -but I am assuming that you have had blood tests and imaging (e.g. ultrasound) which point in this direction? Are you querying why they are doing a biopsy or what to expect when you have the biopsy? If the diagnosis is proven then the treatment - if any - depends on the cause - is it alcohol related or non-alcohol for example. They may just monitor it over time, or may do further tests. The actual biopsy is done as a day case usually - maybe under ultrasound guidance. They will keep checking your pulse and blood pressure fairly frequently for a few hours afterwards, and you have to lie on your right side afterwards. You will need someone with you at home overnight after you have been discharged home. It is a slightly uncomfortable test, but they use a local anaesthetic and it is over fairly quickly. They may take just one sample or maybe 2 or three (I have had only one at one biopsy but three at the first one). Good luck and let us know how you get on.
I also just had an US scan, I think as what was said by gamesmaker different places. My scan told me & them all I needed to know. Good luck. Let us know.
