Hi I've just noticed a little swelling... - British Liver Trust
Hi I've just noticed a little swelling round my ankles made me panic died anyone else have this with pbc help I'm worried xx
I wouldn't panic but it could be oedema (a bit of fluid retention), are you noticing any tummy bloating too i.e. possible signs of ascites? Don't ignore it, if you really are worried go to the hospital (especially with it being the bank holiday weekend) or see your GP at earliest opportunity and/or a phone call to your consultants office as it is a possible change in your situation.
Stay strong, seek help, i've learned not to ignore any little niggle now but also knowing either yourself or loved one has an underlying condition does cause a bit of stress and ultra sensitivity to symptoms which may or may not relate to the underlying liver condition.
Don't panic but do seek medical advice. All the best.
Katie
Make an appointment with your GP or contact your consultant. AyrshireK is right that it's more than likely to be Oedema or As cites which is a common symptoms of liver disease, but it's easily treated with medication. You can also make changes to your diet which will help (perhaps ask to see a hospital dietician). One thing that I would suggest is that you shouldn't avoid asking your GP or Consultant if you see any changes, they are the people with your medical history and will be able to treat you according to your condition and circumstances, we all like to be very British and not make a fuss, but with a chronic condition, your Dr would far rather take steps to tackle symptoms early than deal with them later on when you finally turn up at their surgery with more serious symptoms. You'll get plenty of well meaning but often misguided advice from the internet and forums which could in some cases do more harm than good.
