although I like to set my goals for the year in Spring I voted autumn cos I just love the weather and have made the most progress at this time of year.

Actually it's two: late spring and early autumn. Mostly because the temperatures are more suited to running comfortably in tee shirt and shorts.

I voted Autumn, it's also a exception on when I usually run which is in the morning, I had a afternoon run last year in October, running through the woods when the sun was shining brought out beautiful Autumn colours on the trees which are not there in the morning.

Hard choice but I went with Spring, early Spring is usually still cool enough to be comfortable for running with the promise of lighter nights on their way.

I live in Scotland - so summer is tops!

I voted autumn, but late spring is nice too. I don't mind the summer so long as the temperature is below 28°C, above that becomes difficult. My favourite periods to run are when I only need the minimum of light weight clothing.

I do like running in all seasons except for the height of summer. I struggle in the higher temperatures; everything is harder! Spring is lovely for the ‘rebirth’ feeling of everything around us; autumn is beautiful for the colours and the cooler temperatures after the summer. I have to vote for winter, though! It has the edge for me. I get the best results in my running then - I have much more control. You just can’t beat a sunny, frosty winter morning (as long as it’s not slippery!). Some of my best runs have been in the winter, including my one and only HM.

Tough choice between autumn and spring but the ground gets waterlogged over the winter. In autumn it's still relatively dry. Plus there's the challenge of seeing how late into the season I can leave it before finally facing the truth that it's not 'running in a vest and shorts' weather.

Ooh, and if there's woodland there are all the colours and the scrunchy leaves...

Definitely Spring. It's such an optimistic time of year with lighter mornings for my runs, less cold so fewer layers to embrace and the promise of improving weather too.

Spring for me. This year was pretty awful…but usually it is the start of warmer weather, layers can be shed, green leaves and flowers are appearing, and creatures, flying and otherwise, are returning to the forest. It represents the promise of longer stronger runs. Beautiful time of year.

Definitely Winter, with Autumn a close second. I run very hot, so Winter is great for me as I can go out in shorts and a t-shirt and once I've warmed up I'm a pretty decent temperature.

I’m with you there (apart from the shorts and t-shirt!)

Spring- not hot, not too cold, new sprouting of Flowers showing.

I did umm n ahhh over Autumn too but don’t like the nights drawing in & slippery leaves underfoot.

Autumn got my vote and Spring would be next, followed by Winter. I've run less in the Summer - last summer I was injured for almost all of it and this year I've been ill and now I'm using the gym more than I'm running.

I don't like heat but don't mind rain or cold. My experience isn't extensive, but I did enjoy going out on cold days and running a 5k; in a sense it felt like beating the weather too!

I thought I'd need extensive hydration systems for the summer, but I've never run when it's really hot and started to run shorter distances after hitting 1 hour in the spring.

I voted Autumn but agree with most on here that early Autumn, late Spring are best. My least favourite running season is easier to vote on. I really don’t like running in the heat so Summer is the one I dislike the most. Mind you, our seasons are becoming more and more unpredictable, often dealing us the expected weather for 4 seasons in a single day. The seasons are definitely not as clearly defined as they used to be. Xx

I voted spring, but a close call between all four seasons :-).

Winter would have won, but I run early usually so black ice/frost is a slippery issue.

I run hot - I’ll sweat buckets in the depths of winter- so prefer cooler runs.

Spring is great as it gets lighter I can dispense with the head torch (which has just come out of its over summer slumbers)

Autumn is lovely, but the hawthorn hedge cuttings on most of my routes seem to be permanently embedded in my shoe soles.

Summer just gets hot and sticky (usually), I love running in the early sunlight on what will be a hot day - I had zero of those kind of runs this year :-(

All seasons have their good and bad points...but I particularly love seeing more and more flowers come out and to hear birdsong as I run.

Many thanks for your post! It is difficult to choose just one, as I find each season has it's charms. I love spring especially as the days lengthen, but I do really enjoy running any time of year, when it is not too hot or icy.

I put spring but actually I love all the sessions for different reasons, winter running is very special because I can keep going until I really warm up 😁

I love the light early mornings, with birds singing and a comfortable temperature for running.

Winter. I adore those cold frosty mornings when your breath feels fresh and you breathe out mist. My lungs feel young and I have more energy.

The world looks peaceful and Mother Nature looks asleep and stark, yet there is a hive of life underneath my feet preparing for the warmer months. A time to reflect, to say goodbye to the old and get ready to say hello to the new ❤️

my preference is summer because I don't have to carry extra discarded layers of clothing!
