Hopefully we'll get the whole Sandie1961 group voting for the Midlands then! π€£
Lovely run close to home, along a canal and through a wood.
East Anglia π€
I have edited 'South...' to include E Anglia. I only get 8 options π
Happened to be in London during half term so ran round Bushy Park on Monday morning. Really pleased that I managed 10k without any stopping or walking and was a few seconds under 70 minutes! Had only done a couple of similar distances since February. Looking forward to the medal and shirt!
Along the Saxon Shore Way π
I didn't do the Virtual Vitality but I did do the Adnams 10k on Wednesday, like Jorge, in East Anglia (we're definitely not Midlands or South so I can't tick any boxes even if I'd done the right event). I stuck together two of my regular runs, partly through woodland but the rest on quiet roads, and the length was just about right. I picked Wednesday because the forecast for the weekend was so awful, which looks like a good call.
I hadn't really done enough prep, so took it very slowly with planned walking, and according to Strava my pace was exactly the same as last year... and my splits were nearly negative! I was so chuffed with feeling ok at the end, in fact still having something in reserve, that I'm now thinking of doing a half marathon next spring. Me! a half! I can't believe it might be possible...
A wet and windy run along Southsea promenade (complete with seaweed), made entirely tolerable, even enjoyable, on account of meeting a group of lovely HU running buddies for the first time π
A very wet run around Brockwell and Dulwich Parks in South London (and the streets in between!).
I ran my vVitality 10,000 in the Norfolk Fens. Started off on a single track lane alongside a river near the Ouse Washes and had the company of hundreds of Whooper Swans flying overhead just before dawn, on their way to the farmers fields for their breakfast! Came back onto a main road for a while, out of the village where I live. Another single track road cutting through farmland - I disturbed a heron and saw a barn owl out hunting along one of the water filled ditches. Back out onto the main road and home! I enjoyed the run and was pleased with my time, which was only a minute outside my PB.
I have edited 'South...' to include E Anglia. I didn't forget but I only get 8 options π
Essex. Nice run along past the rugby club and around the local nature reserve.
Not really South England though.
Mid Northumberland
I ran alone along a disused railway line at the bottom of Guisborough woods. Conditions were a bit claggy. I thought about many VRBs running elsewhere at the same time...and there was a bit of polite interest in each othersβ timesπ . Topped off with lunch out, flat white and up market brownie.π
Just my usual route - I was (stupidly) too nervous to run anywhere unfamiliar ππ. Really enjoyed it though.
East Anglia
From my doorstep in North West Kent - route across fields, through woods and around a lake
I didnβt, but massive congratulations to all that did!! π You continue to inspire us all.
Maybe next year π!! Letβs face it we are no longer required to travel to be part of the big races!! Well done to you all! π€©π€©β€οΈ
I did my run on Vitality 10K on Friday 30 Oct. I decided to run along the river as Richmond Park is a bit too 'lumpy' for me to run a 10k without stopping. I ran up to Kew Green and then joined the towpath - it was lovely and warm but very windy in parts depending on the bends in the river. I paused a few times to take some en route photos. Some of the route was a bit boggy with huge puddles but the scenery is great. It was half term so there were lots of walkers and cyclists. I ran to just past Richmond Bridge and then turned around to complete the final 2k - I finished in 1 hour 5 mins which was 10 minutes faster than my first attempt at 10K a few weeks ago - and I was surprised and really pleased with this. Looking forward to getting the t-shirt!
Well done, thatβs a great time. I did my half marathon at Hampton Court, so think I probably ran some of your route π
Thank you Sandie - I think my pausing for photos helped me to get my breath back. I was thinking of cycling over to Bushy Park and maybe doing the 10k there or starting it there and then running along the lovely towpath from Hampton Court to Kingston. I am always so indecisive and on the day I was just pushed for time so the easiest and flattest local option was to head to Kew and do the Kew to Richmond route. Spoilt for choice really. I considered doing the Park Run route in Richmond Park twice but it is too lumpy at the end of the circuit for me - by that stage I need a nice flat ending. Well done on the half marathon - I was thinking of what my next challenge can be but a half marathon seems a long way away - maybe 10 miles?
All lovely places in different ways! I did 10 miles as an interim distance rather than going to half marathon (in fact vowed never to do a HM but was persuaded by some who argued it was only a parkrun further π). Not many 10 mile events sadly, so bling in a bit short supply π’
Thank you for the tips. Even 10 miles seems a bit daunting at the moment but I'll take it slowly with a bit of 'Jeffing' perhaps Seems the way to go and then I can aim for the half marathon - my son has done a couple of HMs so I can hopefully get good enough to run with him sometimes. I'm just about to lace up and head out. Can't wait. x
I didnβt really have a plan, but just increased my longest run of 3 each week by 1km every 2 weeks, so it took me nearly 3 months to get from 10k to 10 miles, but didnβt feel toooo hard. Just found I needed extra energy from around 12k so took a bottle of Tailwind to keep me going!
I did mine from my house in York - was a beautiful sunny morning and I went along the river and through part of the city and back home again. For once in my life, I am enjoying running including running longer distances so am hoping this lasts π
I was one of those running with UpTheStanley , linda9389 , Oldgirlruns , Wimborne and cheekychipmunks along Southsea Prom in the rain and the wind. The weather could have been better but so nice to see everyone and I will be living off that one for a while now.
I feel your pain regarding only 8 options. I can see the West Country objecting violently and probably with pitchforks to being forced to declare themselves part of "South and East Anglia" . Mine was with others (socially distanced of course) on Southsea prom, as reported extensively last weekend . Conditions were near perfect, and I was delighted with my 51'45" time (sorry to bring that up again Katnap )
It's mainly about finding out who did the run, and celebrating their achievement, yay fun! π 'South and East Anglia' is more specific than 'Outside the UK' at least π
Anyway, big congratulations to you sir, that was a fabulous run!!!
Along the seafront at Southend on sea and home. It was lovely.
I did my run around Nottingham straight from my front door. I loved the run itself and have since signed up for more virtual runs. I'm really looking forward to getting the medal and t-shirt. It will be my first medal.
Draycote Water

Lovely Norfolk π
My local Surrey roads on Halloween - admiring all the spooky displays in the local gardens!π
Proudly wore my race number and enjoyed the glorious sunny weather on 25th Oct. Ran an extended version of my 'tried and tested' 8k route out past Fotheringhay (looking fabulous against the clear blue sky). Had ridiculous panic as I neared the end that I had only done 9 rather than 10k so re-ran one section to make sure I'd completed the distance!! Brilliant sense of achievement.
However... over the following week I became beleaguered by gremlins doubting that I had done my 'best', so decided to take a 2nd bite and ran 10k again yesterday. The result? With a strong gusty wind to assist me on the way out and plague me on my way home I recorded a time 5 seconds slower than my first attempt..... am sure there is a lesson to be learned in there!
I ran from my house in West Yorkshire across to the next village, a bit of wiggling around housing estates and onto an old railway track now a bridleway /footpath then up in a loop along farm tracks and eventually rejoined the bridleway. Lots of mud and puddles, grey and rainy weather. When I signed up for it I thought I'd probably have to walk some of it but I didn't and it so it was my first 10k π
Did mine on one of my favourite 10k run routes and got my best time for that route . So far seems I'm the only one in Scotland on hereππ
Edit: I'm not the only one in Scotland on here . I stand corrected
Iβm sure you canβt be the only one, although Iβm not sure how many of you would have signed up for the actual race in London!
You're right Sandie . I wouldn't have ran it if it didn't go virtual. Enjoyed being part of it thoughπ
Along the south coast on a sunny breezy day. Looking forward to bling and t-shirt!
I'm on the borders of Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and South Yorkshire, so voted Midlands. My first entry into any type of organised event. My run was a mixture of mostly "byways" and some country lanes and a short stretch on the Trent bank. Weather ideal, early morning and although not fast by some standards, I knocked 10 minutes of my PB. Really enjoyed itπ€
Late to the party yet again! Thanks Sandie1961 , brilliant suggestion for a poll! T-shirts and medals have just started arriving. Katnap and I christened ours on our 10k this afternoon. I think they are a unisex fit as it doesnβt fit around the curves that well. However itβs a very nice New Balance technical top so it does wick all the sweat away nicely. And the medal is fab! X
