Hi Surviver.......not my toenails however I have terrible problems with my fingernails. They lift from the flesh, sometimes halfway down the nailbed. And then literally break off. So I have now resorted to Gel nails? Doesn't help with the nail actually lifting from the flesh, just helps so they don't break so short. I worry all the time about the nails actually lifting completely. I don't have any idea why this happens, and no one can give me any answers. I have never had this problem before. Have been on Tamoxifen for 2 years now and am also experiencing the joint/bone pains etc. My nails did become very soft and flakey during the chemo, and so I am not sure whether it's chemo or tamoxifen related. Will be interested to hear if you are told anything different. Good luck

Hi there surviver, toenails are fine but fingernails are still a bother 3 years after chemo ended. I had Herceptin and am not on any of the hormone depressing medications. My fingernails are like EW03-03 and early on after my treatment it really bothered me a lot. I have always been susceptible to fungal infections across my body, and I wonder if this is what causes the problems with the nails attaching to the nail bed. I have spoken to many medics but no treatment has been offered which succeeded. I've now decided not to fret and leave them be. The worry is not worth it when I am here and living life fully every day. Interested if you find the magic cure. take care x

I am not on tamoxifen or anything like that but I did lose 9 finger nails and 1 toe nail (looking like a couple more will desert me shortly) following chemo earlier this year. Caroline xx

Hi there I am 6 years on Tamoxifen - toe nails are ok but don't grow much or well and I do seem to lost bits ., Finger nails are really rubbish though - they break and nail beds and sides get sore and irritated . Tamoxifen just plays havoc with your body and your sleep patterns are screwed! I too get sore bones and joints / just try and keep fit and active.. and stay positive

I lost several toenails during chemo treatment. They grew back slowly and crooked. Could your loss still be from chemo? My CA was not hormone related it was protein type, so I have not had to take any anti-hormone pills. The chemo can do it.
