Interesting item on tumeric - I try and add it fresh or powdered to as much as possible - don't forget the black pepper to help it get absorbed.....bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-374...

I read that with interest, am seeing my onc in a couple of weeks will mention to him whether he thinks its worth it... do you just buy from a supermarket or do you need health food shop quality?

Hi Nix - don't be disappointed if your onc dismisses the idea as they will always be looking for those magic words 'evidence based' unless they have nutritional training. It's worth going to see a nutritionist at 'The Haven' in London or Hereford to get advice I have found. I think its best to use fresh turmeric if you can but a good quality organic powder would be good too. Supermarkets don't always stock it but I got a great packet of fresh in Sainsburys recently that lasts. I also posted the BBC link on the Penny Brohn community and had this great recipe of how to use it and store in fridge from a member which I copy below. All the best

.TURMERIC GOLDEN PASTE. Fom one of our support group members, an easy way to use: ¼ cup turmeric powder or 2 ½ cm knob fresh turmeric, finely chopped; ½ teaspoon ground black pepper; ½ cup filtered water: 2 tsps coconut oil/olive oil; (optional: I cm fresh ginger, finely chopped). Cook all ingredients together in small saucepan on medium heat, stir well until mixture thickens – doesn’t take long. When paste has formed, remove from heat to cool. Keep in fridge and add to smoothies, dishes, whatever you want.

I'm sitting here reading this drinking my daily drink of turmeric, black pepper, honey, lemon and organic hemp seed oil. I use organic turmeric powder now but previously bought the powder from Sainsburys. I buy fresh turmeric from my local Asian supermarket and I use it in curries, chicken dishes, stews etc. I've read so much about the health benefits of turmeric but when I mentioned it to my oncologist they didn't really have an opinion on it. I believe some lab studies have proven that the active ingredient in turmeric called curcumin can fight cancer. Here's an interesting article draxe.com/turmeric-benefits/

Big hugs
