You only had surgery 3days ago, give it time. It took me a couple of weeks until my pain eased. Keep doing your exercises and take pain relief. I had the same surgery as you. 8 weeks on I still get the odd twinge. I hope this puts your mind at rest. Good luck with your future treatment. x
thank you for the reassurance and good luck with you're future treatment have appointment tomorrow at hospital was dreading going just in case I had a infection but more settled now x
I hope all goes well tomorrow, I start my chemo on Wednesday, still a long road ahead. Stay positive and I'm always here if need to chat x
tthanks for you're words and you're kindness will be thinking of you on Wednesday. I will also be here should ever need to talk because it is a long road ahead for us both but we do need to stay positive good to speak to you. good nite and god bless xx
Have you been given painkillers? I don't remember being in pain for too long - maybe soreness and discomfort rather than pain but we all have a different pain threshold- I think mine is high. It depends what you mean by up and about - certainly you should not be lying in bed all day. You must do the exercises that you have been given or you will cease up. If you are worried at all, contact your surgeon or breast care nurses. It is best to check things out rather than worrying about it. Hope this helps and you start improving soon
hi Christie have been taking pain relief since being discharged on Tues and doing exercises every day and getting up out of bed every morning doing some light housework have contacted my breast nurse and explained my symptoms she seems a wee bit concerned that I may have picked up a infection so will see her today . being up and down emotionally is what I meant not lying in bed all day .
Take your time you will get better but it will take a few weeks not days,I had surgery last April and it took 2-3 weeks, keep doing your exercises and be kind to yourself good luck with your recovery.
Hi Megan I had the same as you with a WLE and 2 nodes out. I think I have a high pain fresh hold as in the past I've walked on a broken leg for 3 weeks before finding out, so I only needed one dose of paracetamol. I think it must also depend on where abouts your scar is as to how much pain you get and also how gentle your surgeon was. I did have a few aches which lasted a weak or too but not enough to take painkillers for. I'm glad you're seeing your breast care nurse they are the fountain of all knowledge and I'm sure she will sort you out. Good luck let us know how you get on, keep your chin up 😃
Hi I had my surgery on 26th Jan and felt really rough for 3 weeks this is the first week I have started to feel better. You get lots of funny pains, pricking sensations and twinges in your breast. I spoke to the breast nurses a few times as I was worried whether this was normal. They always have advised that it normally takes 4 weeks for the external stitches to start to dissolve and 6 weeks for internal ones. I am still numb under left armpit, really weird sensation and I'm still getting lots of pains, take mixture of ibuprofen and paracetamol I took that every day for 2 weeks and then slowly reduced, it's still really early days for you so don't do anything and rest and get everyone looking after you if you can xxx
Get checked out if pain persists as nerves may have been damaged in process of WLE and node removal. Most large hospitals have pain clinics so ask for help with referral if need be.
It's important to do your exercises!!!
hi I did get it checked got a wee infection but breast nurse said that there might be a bit of nerve damage thanks for telling what I can do of it persists. doing exercises on a regular basis getting a bit easier to do
Hello. I had mastectomy and full lymph clearance 18th Jan. I was up and sbout very early after the operation as very determined but I crashed a few weeks later. Take your time, listen to your body and rest. Keep up the exercises they get easier. My surgeon put blockers in so I has no pain just twinges and uncomfortable times. I still feel uncomfortable at times and tired and my BC nurse said it's all normal. PICC line going in Weds, First Chemo Thursdsy needless to say I am petrified and it's all on top of my sons 13th birthday 😃😃. Good look honey and listen to your body xxx
Who n earth told you that???? yes it's gone but it's early days be kind to yourself if you feel like it have a damn good cry rest and take your own time there are a lot of us on n here who are or were in your place talk to us if you're worried or just in need of some support and you,ll get through it xxx✌✊xx
thank you janny I will take you're advice xx
Hi Megan, I had more or less the same diagnosis as you last year. You will have pain for a few weeks and as the other ladies said do your exercises. Take a walk and rest when your body tells you. Everybody responds differently to pain. The pain will go but the numbness will remain for a long time. Take it easy and do seel the advice of your breast care nurse if you are worried. Everybody is unique so try not to compare yourself to anyone else. I'm here for you if you'd like to vlchat about it
