Hi guys. Hope you are all well. Wonder if anyone can advice please. I have an unruptered brain aneurysm. My GP wants me to start HRT (10 years post menopause). Is anyone else taking HRT with aneurysm?. Does anyone know if this is a safe practice?
Thanks 👍

Thank you Spyderman. Just conflicting views on this so very concerned. Wonder how many women on here have an opinion. If you don't miss nd me asking have you had an aneurysm? What's your experience? Hope you ok 🙏
Hi I was prescribed HRT earlier this year and have an unruptured aneurysm. My GP didn't think it would be harmful, but did ask me to check with my neurosurgeon before prescribing. My neurosurgeon agreed that transdermal HRT would be safe. I am 10 years post surgical menopause and have HRT spray, which I find helpful. Perhaps you could check with your neurosurgeon? You may also find it helpful to have a look on the Balance (Dr Louise Newson) and Menopause matters websites if you haven't already done so.
Thank you Celtic0560. I have to wait up to 2 weeks for response from neurosurgeon 🤔. May I ask hiw you are coping living with an unruptured brain aneurysm. I am scared every day of a rupture. Mine is in basilar tip area. I go in September for my 2 yearly check. People on this site seem so brave compared to me.
Good morning. I have the same worries. I have been on HRT for a few months now and haven’t had any problems so far. I have new aneurysms where I had my initial subarachnoid haemorrhage clipped 28 years ago.
Thank you Dawn . Sorry to hear you have developed more aneurysm. It is so scary. I wish I had never been told about it to be honest . I don't feel like I can enjoy life now . Mine is 5mm and they say it's difficult to treat. Great news eh? Ignorance is bliss sometimes. I wish you well and hope we all stay safe.
Just wanted to thank you all for raising this issue. I suspect I am becoming perimenopausal and would like to try HRT. I have an unruptured brain AVM which is similar to an aneurysm. I'll make sure I check with my neurosurgeon that its safe first.
Hi Bertha, like you I too have a basilar tip aneurysm, I have had several surgeries and it has ruptured once and I’ve been very lucky to survive, with mainly mental disabilities. I too felt it’s maybe better to not know, but at least you can prepare to a certain extent. I have accepted I can’t change anything and try to make the most of everything now, I get annoyed with myself because I can’t do the things I used to, I used to enjoy gardening and decorating and now have to rely on my family. I wish you lots of luck and love Alice xx
Thank you Alice for your kind words. What size was your Annie? What surgery did you have?. They say mine is 5mm and wide necked. I try to stay positive but I constantly worry. Every headache I get I think this is it. Daft eh?
Hi Bertha, I think mine grew to about ten mm, mine too has a wide neck, so is very difficult and has proved to be very un predictable, I had stents and coils fitted in 2012, all was well for few years then the headaches became worse and it was found Annie had grown. They said they could fit more coils and I was due to go in on the Friday and on the Sunday 15th January 2017 it ruptured, I was walking my dog, it was cold and wet, and the ambulance service were overworked, so I was on the floor for quite some time but was with a very nice lady who had seen my dog acting very strangely, and came back and found me behind parked cars. Sorry it’s very ramble my memory isn’t the best lol, I was drifting in and out and was able to tell her about my aneurysm, when the rapid response came they red coded me straight away. I was in hospital three weeks high dependency and further three weeks on the ward, I have poor memory poor balance, word jumbling I have penguins in my garden which is brilliant for Manchester, constant head pain, but think I’ve been very lucky. Since then Annie has grown again and was pressing on my brain stem, very frightening, they were going to try further coils but I collapsed day before and it was found a blood clot is in front of Annie this was several years now and is still there, and Annie has actually started to shrink, I haven’t been able to speak to anyone face to face because of covid to find out more but I will take this miracle for now so never give up hope Bertha love Alice xx
