Hi! I'm new to this forum and I've just found out that an aneurysm I had coiled 23 years ago (in Germany) has recurred. I was sent for a diagnostic angiogram at the start of the month as I'd never had ANY follow ups on any of my of my three aneurysms (2 ruptured basilar, coiled in Germany, and one right side, unruptured, clipped in the UK the following year). This angiogram showed that one of my coiled aneurysms has regrown and I'm waiting for my appointment to get it coiled again and a stent inserted to divert the flow of blood away from the aneurysm.

My consultant has reassured me that coiling/Brain aneurysm technology has come a LONG way in the past 23 years and that this is the best way forward for me given the location of my aneurysm (near the brain stem so clipping would be way too risky).

As someone who's had both coiling and clipping, for me, coiling was the best, less invasive way. And my consultant certainly never gave me the impression that re-coiling would not be possible. Hope all goes well!

Thank you for you reply, I guess I will have to wait and see what my options are first, I had mine coiled 7 years ago and you are so right technology has come a long way... I'm scared (normal I think)

Thank u

I definitely think fear is normal! I had my SAH when I was just 21 and didn't realise the full implications of my situation (Thank God there was no Dr Google around then 😃). Now I'm in my 40s with two kids and a husband to think about. I think that makes it worse. Good luck whichever way you decide x

I opted for crainiotamy for both mine as I’d read coiling can need re doing a few times z

I guess it's a case of what your specialist recommends. The craniotomy route is very risky for my aneurysm that's recurred but my consultant feels that adding the stent should keep the pesky coils in their place, divert bloodflow away from the aneurysm and significantly reduce the chances of another coiling 👍👍

Mine told me the right side needed crainiotamy the left side they could coil I said they wasn’t coiling mine as there was only 5% chance of success as they made need to take me in a few more times to add more coils n it’s still as risky, he told me most people prefer not to av invasive surgery and I told him I’m not one of those people, I want fixing properly the first time so I don’t av to keep going back to be checked and possibly need further coils n the crainiotamy is 99% chance of Success n if they can do one they can do other same and they did one one week n other two weeks later n Iv never had follows ups since the one ten weeks after n that was just to check my recovery n discharged n never had no more scans or further app x
