Hi Rachy,
No, I’m afraid that having taken the pill on Saturday will not have protected you from the risk of pregnancy. If you want to avoid getting pregnant you will need to use a method of emergency contraception, the sooner the better. There are two methods of emergency contraception that work up to 5 days after having unprotected sex: EllaOne, which is a form of emergency contraceptive pill, and the copper coil, sometimes called the IUD. EllaOne is only available on prescription so you would need to go to your family planning clinic or GPS – if you are going to your GPs it would be worth mentioning on the phone if possible that you need emergency contraception just to check they will be able to provide that for you. The copper coil is 99% effective at preventing pregnancy and the most effective method of emergency contraception. It needs to be fitted by a trained medical professional so again you would need to go to your family planning clinic. Some GPs also fit coils, but again it would definitely be best to check ahead first.
I hope this helps. We have some more info about emergency contraception on our website here which might be of use: bpas.org/js/filemanager/fil... Do try not to panic but if you can pop down to your family planning clinic / GPs as soon as possible that would be best.
Best wishes,
Katherine
