My step-Son turned up this morning while his Dad was out getting the last few food bits for Xmas he is a Alcoholic & Paranoid Schizoprenic can anyone help me with a question he said the Doctor told him 2 carry on drinking but the person from the mental health team Psychatrist ( sorry about my spellings ) has told him 2 stop so who is right? as when he was here it upset my tummy no end just as I was getting on top of things!!!

Many thanks

I don’t think this is the right forum to advise if an alcoholic should carry on or stop drinking…..maybe see if there is another site that is related to this as people might be better placed to help sorry

Sorry I wish I had the answers for you but personally I wouldn’t say he should be drinking but I’m not a doctor as one drink just leads to another and it’s a vicious cycle but I would speak to someone with more knowledge on the topic to get the correct advice. Yes I agree I hope you have a lovely Xmas and things calm down for you. Personally I’m dreading Xmas I want these next 4 days to go very quickly and start the new year a fresh I used to love Xmas when I was little but not now it’s just horrible. Anyway good luck and take care xx

Once again thank you yes I do know this isn't the right forum for that all the time he was here waiting for his Dad to return from shopping pushed my stress levels up by more than 100% and I had a few tummy problems after he left as I had to get quite cross with him and his Dad is useless he never tells him off ( I know he is over 40 years old and not a child ) but his Dad just puts his head in the sand and expects me to deal with it all when he knows full well about my tummy problems also you are like me I am dreading Xmas with this awful IBS/Diverticular Disease and all that goes with it just as well it's only the 2 of us again this so things will go at my pace I am really annoyed with myself as trying to cater for him is a nightmare so I say no more as I never really know from one day 2 the next how I am going 2 be well thank you Happy Xmas and hope they can cure us better in 2024 take care xx

Bless you anxiety won’t help your tummy as all so I really hope it goes well for you but I’m the same dreading it as well it’s the first year I will be with my parents for 4 solid days and I don’t get on that well with my dad as he doesn’t understand my health issues and I’m so scared about the whole thing I just want to run away and hide somewhere. Have you spoken to your doctor about how your anxiety affects your tummy? There are some ssri medications that are used for ibs that also help anxiety. I’ve been put on pregablin for nerve pain and that also helps with anxiety it’s not an ssri but there are different meds that can help with both. Just trying to think of some ideas I do breathing exercises as I can have panic attacks as well so I try to control it that way and listen to some hypnosis to relax me or happy music to break the cycle of anxiety. I’m always here if you need to message over the difficult time as I’ll be feeling the same trust me xx
