I've been diagnosed with severe osteoporosis in the hips and spine and it's really hit me hard (mentally). I've not yet started my meds (i was diagnosed a year ago) as i cant bring myself to admit i have it and feel angry at myself for allowing myself to neglect my body over the last 20 years. Self sabotage is a wonderful thing, eh? Lol I'd love to hear from people that got diagnosed early and felt the same but have since had positive results and stories.Thank you in advance 🙏🏻🙂

I diagnosed myself at 50 and had lost 34% due to an early menopause. I was on medication and did exercises including weight lifting for 18 years. Now I only gave osteopenia but have started medication again 4 years ago. What are you waiting for? The sooner you start the sooner you will start to feel better. I’ve had no broken bones since I broke my writs at 40 now 79. Osteot is a disease you can do something about so go for it

Some of the meds potentially bring great results especially the new ones like Romo. Have you spoken to the ROS nurses about the different options and what might be best for you? Then you can go and have a good conversation with your doctors and ask the right questions.

We are where we are, you can't change what's happened but you can look forward to a brighter future. No point blaming yourself either, it probably wasn't your fault and even if it was such thnking doesn't help you. Sh*t happens as the saying goes

Hi Throwmeabone ,

Just wanted to wish you a warm welcome to our community :) Thank you for sharing with us here. It's not easy for us to talk about the mental impact of a diagnosis, especially when it brings up such difficult emotions so we appreciate your courage in talking about it. Feeling like you've struggled to accept the diagnosis, as you mention, is really understandable and something that I'm sure a number of our members here can relate to.

Sometimes it can feel difficult to make informed decisions about our next steps as we don't have much information, so we just wanted to highlight our session that discusses osteoporosis medications in detail:

We have lots of other info and support on our website, including a helpline of friendly specialist nurses if you wanted to chat it through further: theros.org.uk/information-a...

Wishing you all the best on this difficult journey,

Lulu
