How much bone mass can I get taking usual drugs for Osteoporosis?

Does anyone here, with a score of -3,0, have gain bone mass with medicine. If not at least the medicine stop the progress of mass lose? Thanks a lot

I have a lumbar DEXA score of -3 and hip 2.6 - unfortunately I wasn’t on top of the risks of the hormone deprivation drug I was put on for 18 months as part of my prostate cancer treatment- I found out myself so I was several months without bisphosphonate protection and my lumber went from T-2.8 to T-3 after 14 months but only 10 of those were on the oral bisphosphonate so they probably slowed down the loss or maybe even gained a tiny bit from the initial 4 month loss on the cancer drug! Who knows!?

I am now going on alendronic acid infusion and have asked for bone markers BEFORE as I can repeat these 3-4 after starting and it will tell me what’s going on - or st least give some extra info and not just waiting the one year DEXA repeat

If you haven’t started meds yet - ask for baseline bone markers (CTX P1NP) BEFORE as well as the DEXA. You can then do a repeat in 3 -4 months to guage how they are working rather than wait for a year or sometimes 2! For a follow up DEXA - not everyone responded to all the meds they use.

I have been taking Evenity for a year due to having a bone density score of -5 in my lower spine and -3.9 in a hip. Also had a previous fractured vertebrae. My latest DEXA scan shows that my lower spine is now -3.9 and my hip -2 so considerable gains have been made. Hope this helps.
