Hello, after finding this forum very helpful and relieved to get so much good advice from those that have actual bone health knowledge, I made an appointment with Osteoscan for a REM. I was originally booked for Brighton September this year , but they cancelled as they were pulling out of that venue. I then booked for Wrotham in October, thinking waiting a few more weeks wasn't too bad. However, it turned out that the appointment was for the following year meaning a 12 month wait! I have since asked for refund and requested I be on a wait list and am quite disappointed and at a loss as how I can obtain a reliable bone check. I had Dexas which have been quite varied with results and not on the same machine etc.

Does anyone know if any other specialist for Osteoporosis who can offer Rems, I know several people feel it is an excellent option to Dexa that can be unreliable.

Best wishes to everyone battling this awful condition.

I don’t know who you booked with but I use this company. I can highly recommend them.

Thank you Fruit and nut, but Osteoscan is the company I dealt with. I heard they are good and as a result are probably over subscribed. I was wondering if there was any other that offered similar.Best wishes.

At my last appointment there was a change of venue because the hotel that was booked suddenly cancelled all of their bookings - weddings, Nick everything that had been booked - so that they could host migrants. Fortunately another hotel nearby was booked and my appointment was just sane day but different place. Hopefully you will get something soon.

Nick is a lovely man, very reassuring and I always feel he puts things into perspective.

As far as I know Nick is the only one that does these REMS. He is a busy man travelling around the UK to the different venues. I had to wait a long time too for both of my scans that I had around 2 years apart.. It is a shame that the one you had booked in Brighton was cancelled which was unfortunate that he decided to no longer visit there. Perhaps he may start up another venue nearby? Fingers crossed. I have just had one and could of course book for November 2025 but do not fancy parting with the cash so far in advance! ;) If you book then you pay immediately.

If you're prepared to travel (maybe book an overnight stay and do some sightseeing), Osteoscan's headquarters is in Daventry, Northants and doesn't have a long waiting list there. Or you could try Profortis in Amersham, the other company that currently does REMS scans.

Thank you for this info, Amersham is a possibility. I wonder if Osteoscan and Profortis have same scanner?

They both use REMS scanners that includes software for a bone fragility score. Unlike DEXA, results from two different REMS scanners can be compared, because the margin of error is smaller.

Thanks for that I did not now that someone else did REMS too. I would like to stay with Nick though as I have seen him twice but it is always good to know there may be an option if the waiting list is so long as it usually is.

Did you check the spire private hospitals in Yr area? Not sure what they charge+ consultant fees. I’m still reeling over my low bone density results telling me I have osteoporosis, after recent Nhs DEXA scan, find hard to believe it’s right, when I’ve been doing all the correct lifestyles for yrs! Still toying over what to do next, definitely not the drugs they already prescribed for me without even seeing a medical person to discuss! Very disappointing!
