'deep clean' at dentist - avoid -

i didnt know what it was, i thought it was like a clean like a dental hygiene clean.i had gone to the dentist to see if there was something stuck under my gum at the very back.

(new dentist, my other dentist had left.) he peddled an x-ray.

i didnt want the xray because nothing else was sore. he then said have you had a deep clean. i said no. he recommended it. i said sure.

he said let me know when it hurts.

it was expensive.

i had pain a week later that thankfully subsided. then i looked it up, it's ridiculous, unnecessary for me, and dangerous, and absolute scam,

it's the lifting gums with high pressure water while scraping the teeth. AVOID.

weeks later i have some tooth pain and haven't had such before.

Dental hygiene is really important. Especially for those of us who might need medication which rules out major dental work during their usage.

X-rays are also standard and I don't think you have "peddled" anything unusual. My dentist does one every year. I also see the hygienist for a deep clean every 4 months.

Suggest you watch this video: youtube.com/watch?app=deskt...

Poor oral health is tied to all sorts of other disease and complications.

do you have the clean where high pressure water lifts the gum while the root surface underneath is scraped, every 4 months? to each their own. i appreciate the discussion though. i've never had it pushed on me before, ever,

(i'd seen my (different) dentist a couple months before as i thought i had a hole in my tooth. it turned out to be nothing, i was really glad that no unnecessary procedure got done! i did accept a dental check up which was suggested.)

i looked up deep clean (gum lift root scrape), and it's for patients with a bad bad plaque problem.

when i first thought something was stuck under gum, the edge of my gum was a bit sore and i thought there might be a bit of fennel seed sticking out from under the gum. so, turned out to not be anything except a tiny groove in my tooth. so - had the scammy deep clean, felt pain a week later below the gum line, for a couple days, then again a couple days ago, but it's better now. i wonder if town water is used for that!

I have the ultrasonic clean with the hygienist every 4 months, yes. I believe the water is what is used to cool the device.

It only really hurt the first time I did it, maybe a tiny bit the second time. Since then it has been pain free as my teeth are plaque free - and the hygienist visits ensure it remains that way. There can be a little additional sensitivity after the first few cleans once the plaque is removed but it quickly subsides.

I’m British living in the Netherlands, and the ultrasonic cleans have replaced the conventional ‘scrape’ here in recent years. Not a scam at all, and the same price as before, so not being sold anything extra as a rip off. It is a much less painful experience than the former method, and is the modern standard treatment.

I ‘ll take whatever oral treatments are on offer, as poor oral hygeniene can be linked to heart problems and also sorts of other nasties. Also want to avoid having dental work done due to the osteoporosis meds.
