Hi, I’m taking Alendronic acid weekly at the moment. I was thinking of getting bisphosphonates by twice yearly injection instead. I’d love to know if anyone else have done this, and if there are any benefits for taking it this way.

Sorry I haven't but I what I would say is personally I wouldn't even if I could I understand there's more problems with the injections and and also if for any reason you wanted to stop you couldn't I also understand from my dentist there's more problems with your teeth with injections but do check with the OP nurses they will be able to help good luck
Thanks for the reply. It’s the same with the Alendronic acid. I put off taking it for years but got a couple of spinal fractures last year. Just upping my calcium and d3 didn’t do any good
I am taking AA. There are two sides to the story. If you have no side effects, I would continue. AA seems ‘the safer’ bone drug. I don’t believe that every health professional is out to harm us. Do you live in the U.K.? If so National Osteoporosis Society has a helpline.
Hi Savbing, I haven’t any really bad side effects as yet with the AA. Just wondering if the injection would be better as it doesn’t go into your stomach. There’s so many awful things said about it, but unfortunately I have to do something more than supplements for my Osteoporosis. I do live in the uk and the NOS are very good. Ty for reply. 🙂
The infusion may be more convenient, but should you suddenly get problems from an infusion, or need invasive dental treatment, the infusion will be more problematic.
If the AA agrees with you, I personally would stick with it. Best wishes
Thanks Lynne, I probably will stick with it. I’m a wimp when it comes to medication, I hate taking any sort. 😄
I have the annual infusion, I've had 2 so far and understand that you only have 3, then you could get a drugs holiday before either continuing with it, or changing to something different. The worst thing that happened to me is that after the second one, I had 5 days of pain in my hips and thighs.
That’s not too bad. I was thinking the infusion at least bypasses the stomach. I’m getting a bit of indigestion. I think it’s the AA as it’s not something I’m prone to.
Do not do that!!!!
Hi sweetsusie have you had a bad experience with it?
Yes...I took Fosamax for 2 days and ended up not being able to swallow...then I started researching all the bone meds...they are awful! Can cause terrible side effects, including spontaneous fractures and jaw breaks....you're better off taking nothing, I believe. The dexa machines are calibrated for a 30-year-old woman...who has the bones of a 30 year old??? I think it's all hypo just to sell medications to women and men who do not really need them!
Hi I'm in UK and had first injection of prolia in November 2018 and within 1 month had 3 ear infections a sinus infection a broken tooth and 2 loose teeth that my dentist won't extract as due to me having so many infections is worried about ONJ so wants to wait till its out of my system I have osteoarthritis and it has worsened by 100 percent since the I injection I now walk with a stick and am in constant pain but my GP is adamant that it's not down to Prolia side effects but I know it is which is confirmed by AMGENs own leaflets and other people's descriptions of their side effects btw my GP says I must stay on Prolia as may get rebound fractures!! GREAT so I either have fractures or no teeth/ONJ and am crippled for life thanks Prolia
Have you heard about the half life of AA? Apparently, even if you stop after a couple of years, it is still in you system for, probably the rest of your life.
