Day6 without a ciggie and feeling depressed.

Has any ex smoker experienced this? I felt OK yesterday but today I'm very low. I'm trying not to be tempted to have a smoke because that would mean I have wasted the last 5 days of gritting my teeth

The sun is shining but it is so bitterly cold out with very strong wind so can't go out as it is bad for my copd.

Anyone know some good jokes? Clean ones of course.

wow, 6th day? That's so brilliant. Hang on in there, I hope you've got something nice to look at out of the window.

Can you phone a friend? Have a chat with someone nice & tell them how you feel.

All the best and keep going, it WILL get better! Best regards, P

that's lovely teabag.

I'll be thinking of you. At present I'm trying hard not to go warm up another teacake! Enough's enough!

And now you need a joke I cant think of any!

Back in June (I was very well at the time), I had to leap over something someone had left on my doorstep. Left foot went over & I broke it. Blooming annoying. Plaster up to my knee.

Grrrr, then next day I was doing far too well on the crutches racing around when - yes, you guessed it, trip over the crutches & broke the other one!

That's quite funny, even I could see the funny side.

If I think of any real funny jokes I'll put them up for you.

Half way to day 7 now. Keep it up

Oh dear. Read about you breaking leg and went ouch! Reminded me when I was showing off on my Honda scooter many years ago. Bumped into the back of a car, fell and broke my arm and cracked a rib. Hurt like mad. Funniest part was I was blaming the car driver.

Thanks peeg :-)

I used to get depressed when trying to stop smoking to the point of crying and of course gave in, then eventually cigs gave me up 13 years ago, had an abcess on my lung in hospital for 3 weeks and just couldn't bear the thought of a cig, so after 6 days wow you're doing well, we're all behind you egging you on - you can do it. We want to hear tomorrow that you're on day 7 !!

Sorry don't know any clean jokes.

Thank you Lib. It seems so petty when we have all been through far worse things in our lives. I'll keep plodding on. x

Your body is fighting the poison and the cravings continue. You are bound to feel down. But keep on fighting because six days is brilliant and guess what? Seven is even better!

HaHa. Yes I like it. I feel the cloud lifting. I'm now going to indulge in a large slice of fresh cream sponge cake. Another thing that is not good for me :-)

Firstly, good to see the support you are getting! You should be proud of yourself. I always have a bad day when i give something up! Usually mine is day 5! Hopefully it will get better from now!

Sustain your efforts and remind yourself why you want to be an ex-smoker! COPD means you need to become an ex-smoker!!!

Have you replaced the ciggies with something you enjoy as much, or nearly as much?

Keep up the good work

People have been so supportive on here.

I keep a bag of large pear drops by my chair and I may treat myself to a couple of squares of choc in the evening. have type2 diabetes so have to be careful.

Well, onwards and upwards.

in reply to teabag333

I love the pear drops too, there's just something in the tang of them.

I'm addicted - to air...just can't seem to get enough of it!

Had two teeth out and got athletes foot...you think I might have foot and mouth?

Remember WHY you've quit - cos you love yourself enough to stop killing yourself!

My hubby is getting fed up of me biting his head off...day 8 and counting!!!

Lucky :)

You have done so well. 2 days ahead of me. Keep on keeping on.

Only one in my home is my cat and I do tend to snap at her sometimes. Thankfully she doesn't snap back. Maybe she is glad she no longer has to breath me smoke.

Oh well, not long now and I can cross off another smokefree day on the calendar

Take care, teabag :-)

Hi Teabag

Please don't think your problem is petty because of what you read about others. Giving up smoking cigarettes is apparently one of the most difficult things to do and I really think that you are soooooooooooo good having lasted for five days (six days tomorrow). All the people who have messaged you have their fingers crossed and are backing you to the hilt. I have my fingers crossed for you and I'm sure that you will succeed this time. Don't beat yourself up if you have a 'slip up' just keep on trying. Can you go for a girlie night out to somewhere that smoking is banned? If you think about it, you go through a whole night in bed and don't feel the need for a cigarette

Pepsicoley profile image
Pepsicoley

Hi again Teabag

I managed to click on the 'Submit answer' button before I had finished. Doh!!!!

If you can go through the night without needing a cig then you can go through the day and you are doing that.

I wish you all the luck in the world (your willpower seems to be very good).

Best wishes Sweetie

Hi annec,

Interesting what you say.Don't know about a girlie night out? Maybe when I get my confidence back. Realized I stopped going out because smoking was banned in all buildings and didn't relish standing outside of doorways puffing away. I miss sitting in a coffee bar while out shopping and relaxing with a ciggie.

Yes, I'm more determined this time.

Take care,

Welll Done Teabag ! im want to stop smoking too and reading this has made me think I must try, as it getting ridiculous with the cost and everything, I just dont know how to start < my sister years ago just threw her pack of cigs away and never looked back, wish i had that same confidence in my will power ! I would love to be anon smoker and not have to think where can I go for a cig, when visiting a pub etc.

Keep it up Im proud of ya !

teabag333 profile image
teabag333 in reply to jacksprat53

Hello jacksprat, The first thing to remember is you have to WANT to give up. I have tried before lots of times but this time my breathing was just so bad that it was an effort to even draw on a cigarette. I just want to be able to breath easier and start doing things like gardening and going for walks etc. There are lots of nicotine replacement aids. See which suits you if you are serious. I smoked for 60 years so I did a lot of damage to my lungs.

All the best, Teabag.

Hi Marina

You are doing so well at the not smoking, please don't give up, look - your stopped already!! You can now tell people that your a non smoker, that would be good wouldn't it? I've picked my day to quit and its this coming monday, already cut down 10 per day since sunday last but know I need to nail it and get rid of the other 30 a day I was getting my way through. As you just pointed out us smokers are nothing more than social lepers. we smell awful as do our homes and people look down their noses at us. My entire family will be delighted if I stopped completely. My son would guard me for life - he is my main nagger to quit and has been since he's he's come to realise that my smoking at home when he was a small baby and young child gave him Asthma. I feel so guilty but it wasn't that well known then was it?. He sent me a darling letter about 5 ??? years ago begging me to stop smoking.god knows I've tried, acupuncture, hypnopsis, patches, chewing gum, willpower BUT this monday is the big heave ho from me, wish me luck you lovely ladies...and thank his letters and telling me was doing the right thing off shes Mummy too Still got the letter and should I achieve my huge goal this weekend I shall read it all to you, it is a lovely letter.

Anyway someone wanted a clean joke, so here it comes - Why did the duck cross the playground............................................................to play on the other slide at the other edge of the playground!

Suppose if I could get from 40-30 in 3 days. Could get from 30-20 by Sat night then go into last random attempt at the last 20 to 0 Sunday into monday. Im gonna do this. If we all saved up our money and added it up at the ended of the week. Good luck to all of you over the next few days. Love to you all Classybird - Louise xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Louise. What a lovely post. You are doing it your way. I shall be rooting for you next Monday. Hope you let us all know your progress.

7th day for me. Still early days but people on here have helped so much.

All the best for Monday Day 1 :-)

Hi

Many congratulations on getting this far. When I stopped I found that strong coffee gave me the same sort of taste as a cigarette for some reason. Weird but it worked. Also, I ate lots of oranges as the taste was amazing after giving up cigarettes which really dulled the appetite. Each to their own, cake is as good as anything and it's only temporary! Courage!

teabag333 in reply to

Hi Carole, Whatever works for you. I have pear drops, chocolate, tangerines, mints. Anything to put in my mouth rather than a cigarette.

Thanks, Marina.

well done, you. and that's it, you have done it. It's only the echoes in your thinking that's doing this. smile at your achievement and know you will feel happier soon.

Hi Bert,

My doctor has never mentioned champix but has given me patches and mini lozenges and I'm now on day 8 but still itching where patches have been. I have tried to quit many times but this time I just have to stick it out as running out of time at my age. I'm on medication for various other things so a bit reluctant to try yet another pill.

Thank you for posting.
