Hi all. I have dla at last. I phoned them today regarding an appeal letter that was sent in by dial in december. Dla states they have no appeal letter. But have have made a desision on a new claim i put in in january. High rate mobility and middle rate care. What a diffrence this will make to my life. Just wanted to share my good news

Thanks joe. Didnt even hsve a visit from atos. But i sent lots of info. Consultants letters. Gp letter. And ot assestment. Think it must have helped.

Well done Ann i also received DLA in january high rate mobility low rate care. i applied a couple of years ago got rejected appealed rejected again, just shows keep on keeping on x

You can also get a bus pass which includes a carer comes free too, if your under 65 and dont already qualify.
Well done Ann, although it sadly bears out the rumours that important letters get 'lost' in their system. I always keep copies of things I send to them, I type the letters on the computer so can print another copy off if they say they've not had one.
I got lower rate care late last year but appealed again as I had actually applied for mobility and they turned me down for that. I asked for a copy of the ATOS Doctor's report they had based their decision upon and have now had to ask them for a transcript as I can't make out half of the words, many are just a line with bumps here and there - typical old doctor, and the one that saw me was ancient!
I've said that if there are issues reading it then how did a decision maker come to a conclusion? From the bits I can read he seemed supportive though. I was sort of hoping they may look at it again and reconsider but doubt it will be that easy.
Hi gordon. Dial have a copy of the appeal letter. With there stamp and date on it. But should i continue with the appeal. When i first applied i was turned down at any level. I dont belive my claim was even looked at. It also took 21 week to get a decsion. But my new claim took 21 days. I really dont understand there system. What ever system it is i really dont think its a fair one

I cant help but feel any system in assessing the level of disability someone has with any illness is going to be a seriously flawed and unfair system when it is done by admin staff with absolutely no medical knowledge or training.

What you could hope for by continuing the appeal is that they would have to backdate the award to the date when your original application was accepted by them, rather than the new claim which is quite recent. On that basis, yes, go for it!
'The System' is a strange title for a process that does not seem to have any defined 'system', but a very complex method of allowing a random bunch of people with varying knowledge and backgrounds to make decisions about medical conditions they probably have no first hand knowledge of. The decisions they make follow no set pattern as someone with a mild condition may be awarded the higher rate yet someone much worse off could be turned down. In fairness, not always the DWP's fault as some applications are not all they could be.
Up to you, but I'd be sending a copy of the Dial letter and telling them how careless it was to lose the first copy...

glad for you, and heartened for ourselves. my appeal (well a form to have it relooked at + more docs) went in jan 17. strange how the first one which went in (filled in by cab) ondec 17 was rejected and letter sent back dated 24th december, average 3 months??? my mp the secretary of stae for Scotland sent the second one back to them telling them that it looked like a case of clearing the desk for christmas.they will probably file it under a wonky table leg but hey, its heartening to hear someone does something there ;). just hope i get a positive decision before we are made homeless.dont they realise the impact dla has with absolutely no help from the state at all without it? sorry, my problems on what is meant to be a well done note. hoping things straighten out now Ann,
funny you should mention clearing desks for xmas i got a letter turing down my application on the 23rd dec letter dated 20th yet i had aletter from them on 21st dec saying they had writen to consultant wih the adress i had set to them on the 19th with other info,so between 19th and 20th they had my letter wrote to consultant got reply assesed and wrote to me i dont think so needles to say its still ongoing and has been since august 2012 so yes i think it was acase of clearing dsk for xmas

Congratulations on your dla makes life easier with that bit of extra money. I already get dla but have yet to have my medical assesment which i am dreading as i get the oppinion you can walk in half dead and be declared fit for work thats going to be a very depressing day.
Make sure you take all your medical evidence with you Mark, Consultants letters, hospital discharge notes, doctors reports etc, and make sure they see you on a very bad day. They are out to put you back to work even if your not up to it. You know yourself if your capable so if your not make sure they know it. Thier tests are nothing short of pathetic and in no way show your work capability so you will have to act accordingly.
Yes fortunately my hospital consultants are good at helping me and write out good letters for me but uunfortunatly my gp knows very little about me as i have always dealt with the hospital its only because of the copd that my gp met me. As i dont bother with him usually. But when the tme comes i will have to see what happens does anyone know the timeframe for atos to check all 3.5 million dla claments as it could still be a while before i get called up.
My husband is 73 so we cannot get DLA but we get Attendance Allowance which really helps.
I know it depends upon your circumstances but with the help of our doctor we never had any trouble with our application. Has anyone had a good or experience of claiming AA?
