Thanks Jo, I've been waiting for this news!

More info on the DirectGov site: direct.gov.uk/en/Environmen... (there are links to the Scottish, Welsh and N Ireland schemes at the bottom of this page)

Sadly, despite the changes, I still do not qualify. It's still based on Income related benefits :-(

Sadly I dont qualify either but I know I must get central heating.Last winter was wicked so I have saved up money I now just have to find a reliable company.I have heard that the Council have a list of approved companies that they suggest to older people - any other ideas would be welcome

age UK have a list of approved professionals who can give quotes for people who are over 55. I beleive the council work in conjunction with trading standards when offering approved companies.

I qualify...yey Thankyou for making me aware of the scheme..

Sigh......I don't qualify even though I'm on JSA, have lower rate DLA and income much less than 15,000 a year.

I own my flat and have the old wooden sash cord windows which are very draughty. I don't have central heating either. As I can't afford any more heating costs I will just have keep turning the fire down and wear more clothes. As least If I do get ill because of the cold I get free treatment and medication! What a life hey?
