A never ending nightmare

A hot sleepless night, I sipped water, turned my pillow, rinsed my face, hands and arms in cold water and dripped dry in front of the fan.

Finally at 7am I felt myself drifting off.

7.32am 'ping' my mobile phone (cursing myself for not setting it to silent) I blearily checked. Dr's wanting a drug review. Well the consultant changed my drugs last week. Back to sleep.

No, wide awake.

8am called surgery, recorded message about covid... emergency only...call after 11am.

11.02 am call surgery, 20 minutes wait.

"I've been told to call for drug review"

Details taken, computer checked "We have nothing available call next week"

Trying not to lose my temper I mentioned the text asking me to call, the importance of the right drugs being available. Then asked "Can I have a phone call with a doctor then"

"First slot open is 2nd August"

I have been assured they won't let me run out of medication, however, if they have not been told of the changes the consultant made they will not issue those drugs.

Last year it took 2 months to get the saline the hospital prescribed. All because of a simple mistake, my hospital discharge papers said no to saline where they should have said yes.

This change of medication is far more serious, it's to put me on doxycycline for three months.

Meanwhile, why send a text to make an appointment if it can't be done?

Sorry for rant but I'm hot, bothered, sleepless, cross and fed up.

I don't think that you need to apologise after such a frustrating morning that really didn't have a good outcome in spite of all your efforts. No wonder you are cross as well as tired. I hope that your meds continue without any problem and that you manage to have a siesta at some point today xx

It's so frustrating when that happens isn't it?

Years ago I had gone to collect some medication from the pharmacy only to be told the doctors had refused to issue it because I was due for a check up I hadn't been told about and the pharmacist had rung the surgery and demanded they give me the medication and they did back down and gave me it but after that I changed surgeries and my current one can't do enough for me.

Yes I did just to say how similar has happened to me and how it's frustrating!

That’s just not on wheezyof. It’s bad enough being too hot to sleep properly without being needlessly awoken for something that wasn’t going to happen. Very inefficient and annoying.

My iPhone is set to be silent from 10pm until 7am so I don’t get disturbed.

Same with us our phones are off from 10/7 as well!

I put a hot water bottel filled ( not compleatly) with cold water in the freezer then pop it under my pillow wrapped in a teatowel cool pillow. My daughter uses a pet cooling pad helps her sleep told my friend now her children are sleeping better

My daughter just bought a cooling pad for the family cat. Cat kept sprawling on the kitchen floor. It worked the cat loves it.

I feel so sorry for her, she still has her big outside coat on but it doesn’t seem to be bothering her much.

We share fans, but I don’t lie in that position.

We have put a cold water bottle in our ginger tabby Babys basket which has cut down the meows!

Send an email to the practice manager detailing the changes and stressing the urgency of starting the doxy. If you have a consultant’s letter or email, attach it. Also stress the uncooperative nature of the receptionist. You need this. Don’t let them mess you about.

I don't blame you at all for having a rant! I can't wait for this week to end to see some respite from this heat......and that's a dreadful thing to think let alone say! However, I don't do heat very well anymore at the best of times but this extreme, unrelenting stuff is doing nobody any good including the animals. To have to chase your own meds up with pointless phonecalls on top really is the proverbial straw I would imagine!

Totally sympathise - had a text from the surgery "can you ring the surgery about your test results" - rang the surgery, after eons waiting on hold was told there's no appointments with the doctor to discuss the results and you will have to call back tomorrow! Why not just ring me in the first place instead of texting, it saves hogging the phone line for both the surgery and the patient! I would try and get in touch with the consultant they are pretty good at taking things forward in that respect.

Unless you live in Basingstoke it must be a UK wide problem. I agree with you about the waste of time.

Don’t blame you for being hacked off I would be too, without a sleepless night!

When will surgeries realise they are making work for themselves by sending out these texts.

Having said that I’ve been having a few tests recently and the surgery is very good at phoning me to see/speak to doc


I'm not surprised you are cross. Your surgery sounds ****** ( can't think of a suitable epithet.) I hope you can get some sleep soon.
