What does a downgrade to urgent on a result for a CT scan mean? could it mean it’s not cancer?

Hello all, I hope you are all well.

My Husband has had a CT scan for a mass on his lungs(cavitating lung lesion), he’s not had his results yet but when he rang the secretary all she could say was he’s now been downgraded to an urgent and will get a letter for an appointment in the next two months.

Does anyone have any idea what a downgraded urgent means as we thought his referral was just an urgent? and does the fact he doesn’t get an appointment for the next two months suggest maybe it’s nothing too serious?

The waiting and not knowing is horrendous, once we know or at least have some kind of idea of what we are dealing with we can move forward with some kind of direction, although I’m sure many of you know that feeling only too well.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice x

I couldn't say for sure Lolorose but my experience for myself and family + friends, when its cancer the hospital doesn't usually delay, so hopefully the mention of a letter within 2 months may well means things are not in immediate urgency.

Hope things work out well with the pending appointment and treatment results.

Best wishes BK

Thank you for your reply, and yes that is what I thought as well to be honest.I have now managed to get hold of the secretary and she is going to get the consultant to ring and talk through his results with him tomorrow, so at least we will know what’s going on by the end of the day tomorrow which will at least take us out of limbo state!

I hope you are having a good day ☺️

Thank you ☺️

It usually means that other tests that were done at the same time show that there is no urgency as first thought.🙂

Best speak to your consultant or his secretary . Nobody can tell you what that means on here.

Thanks, yes I have now and we are getting a phone call from his consultant tomorrow whew!I guess I’m just scared stiff and was clutching at straws in the hope someone could reassure me in some way or other so that I could reassure my husband who is not coping with it too well, hopefully we will get some answers tomorrow.

Thank you 😊

Thank you, yes I just found it strange that it was downgraded to an urgent as I thought urgent was the top one...but guessing maybe there’s a very urgent too.The consultant is ringing to hopefully give us the results and diagnosis today, we don’t have a time so have taken days off and are now nervously pacing the house with our phones to hand, fingers crossed the news is positive 🤞
