‘Alarmingly high’ vitamin D deficiency in the United Kingdom.

Over 50 per cent of Asians living in the UK are severely deficient in vitamin D, leaving them more vulnerable to respiratory infections such as COVID-19 and musculoskeletal disorders, according to a large-scale population study published this week.

The journal Clinical Nutrition also reports that more than a third of Black Africans living in Britain have high levels of vitamin D deficiency, and lower socio-economic groups are more at risk.

Led by the Australian Centre for Precision Health, University of South Australia, using data from 440,581 UK Biobank participants, the study strengthens calls for a mandatory vitamin D fortification program in the United Kingdom.

Unlike most other high latitude western countries, the UK does not fortify any staple food items with vitamin D, aside from a small amount added to margarine.

Dated January 27, 2008 though. Research has progressed since then.

Vitamin D is an immune response modulator, it will regulate the over reaction of the immune system and can stop the cytokine storm, the overactive immune response, happening that is so deadly in Covid-19. This also applies to auto immune diseases like the inflammation response caused in Rheumatism.

Putative roles of vitamin D in modulating immune response and immunopathology associated with COVID-19. (Dated 21 Nov 2020)

"We don't see unusual amounts of Asians being sickly (right?)"

I am sorry but, yes there is a disproportionate amount getting Covid-19 and dying from it.

In the last 3 years.:-

I had Covid in April. Brought home from my partners job and did not need to go to hospital.

Pneumonia once, again brought home from my partners job.

Two chest infections, not unexpected considering I was working in a cold workshop.

I take 2,000 IUs of supplementary vitamin D3 daily and have no complaint at all with that record.

At the end of the day it is really your choice, to believe what you like and to do as you wish. I have just provided facts and links. I do think you should get proper medical advice first.

all british people suffer from osteoporosis and lack of vit d due to the high level of dampness and lack of sun in their surroundings! you must try Ireland, or nova Scotia, there are free places due to the killing in the past of the lords of the zone and so there are spaces for your soul that seeks warm and sun climate!
