Hello Itsmeagain1 ,

πŸ˜” Do you mean Amlodipine? I am also on this drug together with Carvedilol. And it gave me hot flushes and probably migraine, though I do take so many meds that are high in toxicity I hardly know which one causes what. πŸ˜… How bad is your high blood pressure problem? And how are your kidneys doing? High blood pressure is savage on the kidneys that's why I have to stay on them . Funnily, my high blood pressure is caused by another drug I take. So, I can't do anything to lower it. 😏 My side effects lasted from last autumn till early spring this year. Really uncomfortable but maybe I got used to it. I don't feel it much nowadays. Maybe your doctor can suggest can alternative. Do take care of yourself, and watch your kidney function. It's almost impossible to get it back. Have a good day.

Whhaattt? How can he not be worried?? That's dangerous , systolic pressure high enough to damage blood vessels. 😯 How often does that happen? I agree blood pressure needs sorting. I'm sorry you're in such a pickle. xx ☹️

I’m sorry to hear you are having such problems, but I have had extremely high bp for most of my life and these days there are lots of different medications which should work. Have you seen a consultant, because if not ask for a second opinion. It is no life if they expect you to take something which makes you so ill xx

Totally agree. And no I haven't seen a consultant I saw a doctor at a and e twice when I went in by ambulance just told me to start the meds grrrr then sent me home once at 8pm and once at 10pm I'm 30 miles away so nightmare getting home I'm hoping the tests I'm having in London will help to offer me something but I can't breathe well with inhalators got to come off them for 24 hrs eek I was hoping blood pressure meds would of made my breathing better before I went always something holding me back 4 paces forward 10 back I just want some good luck I'm only 60 πŸ˜’

I had side effect problems with all the BP lowering meds including amlopidine, except for indapamide. When that didn't lower my BP enough, my GP suggested I lose some weight too (even though I had a healthy BMI of 24.5). It worked. I lost over a stone, my BMI is now between 22.5 and 23.0 and my BP is in the normal range.

We're all different. Keep persevering until you find the right treatment for you.

As a dietitian, I've come across a lot of diets, and always recommended slimming groups such as Weight Watchers, Slimming World and Scottish Slimmers.

I find the very low calorie diet for 2 weeks works for me, followed by adding some carbs to meals over the next few weeks until target weight is achieved; regular mealtimes, and where I've been eating large portions, using a smaller plate to keep portion sizes down; plus 2 litres fluids spread throughout the day. There are various soup and shake versions of VLC diets available, but I just stick to making my own meals, having protein foods and loads of veg and fruit, but no other carb sources than the fruit. Banana for breakfast; meat, fish or bean salad and fruit for lunch; stew or protein food with roasted veggies or other veggies and more fruit for tea; hot milk for supper. It's not wise to follow this diet for more than 2 weeks as metabolism begins to slow down. And stop immediately if you start experiencing withdrawal symptoms.

The VLC diets were rubbished by dietitians for years, but now the NHS thinks they're going to be the saviour of overweight diabetics, so their reputation has improved.

Hope this helps.
