Home made hand gel

I read recently that it's easy to make your own hand gel with isopropanyl (rubbing alcohol), Aloe Vera gel and some essential oil. Have no idea how effective it is but directions and quantities are on the internet.

I dont have any sanitiser. I use a few drops of tea tree oil. Tea Tree oil has been used in successful trials for treating MRSA - good enough for me. Plus the hand washing of course

Tea Tree Oil and Cream are a standby for me for just about anything. It was found that, providing the strength of Tea Tree was 5% in the cream would do the MRSA and not become resistant, so invaluable.

I was badly bitten by a friend's dog (my fault not the dog's), was about 10pm on a Friday evening, knowing what A&Es can be like from 11pm onwards, I rinsed the cut areas with home made saline solution, used liberal amounts of Tea Tree cream, bandaged up, no problems from bite at all. An added problem, was that animals seem to hate the smell of Tea Tree, so he sulked in a corner. He was Hungarian Puli (they have dreadlocks, like Rastafarians, not fur), so great for people with allergies. He had got his one dewclaw caught up in a dreadlock and I was trying to cut him free, pulled a bit to hard.

I always have isopropanyl on hand as use it for many household cleaning purposes, the list is endless and cuts down on buying too many products.

All I need is some of the aloe Vera gel but that's easy to find plus could probably add a little Tree Tree oil (see Otrees post above) for a 'belt and braces' approach.....to be sure to be sure 👍

Thank you 2 greys have been using surgical spirit but has u pleasant smell nobody here new what Iso propranol was. ,! I asked about survival of virus .

I read somewhere that people are using Vodka as a sanitizer. What a waste!

I do know someone who rubbed it on the gums of a teething baby!! worked well for that.

I agree totally 🍸. Alcohol is for drinking. I shall keep using soap 🧼 and drink vodka to protect my innards. Lol 😂

Good idea, the antibacterial gels on sale are okay for bacteria but only an alcohol one will hit the virus. I'd decided I might carry a mini bottle of mouthwash 😉

According to BBC programme Ive just this minute seen P, the doctor was saying sanitiser has to be at least 60% alcohol to be effective, preferably 70%.

Handwashing to the tune of the Red Flag, and tea tree oil for me!

My friends are being extremely kind and protective of me - realise how lucky I am.

Haha J, its the full 1st verse of old macdonald had a farm for me (except my left hand is mostly in plaster so hand washing is so tricky). It's one glove Peege outside the house . In fact I'll be home bound most of next week as thousands descend to this little town for a big race meet. Heaven forbid that 'they' should cancel, too much money involved.

So glad your mates are in your corner, bless them all. Lungwise I've been very well this winter. 😘😘😘

ps thanks for the info on the 60/70%, very useful. Perhaps I should get some cheap vodka too - before its sold out!
