Does my dad have a chance

My father has stage 4 COPD and had pneumonia about 2 weeks ago he has been hospitalized twice I saw him about a month ago and he was doing okay before he got pneumonia he's able to go out to dinner with us if he carries his oxygen but now he has no appetite and he is barely eating I'm going to see him in a couple of days he is on heavy doses of antibiotics to try and get rid of the pneumonia the doctor say there is a chance he can get back to where he was before he had the pneumonia but I'm terribly worried. My aunt has stage 4 COPD and overcame pneumonia twice so I'm trying to have a good attitude about this all opinions would be greatly appreciated

Hi, I know it's a very worrying time for but there is always a chance, just keep supporting your dad and show him how much he is loved. Where there's life there's hope, please try to stay positive and I'm sure your Dad will get back to where he was. Thinking of you all, have a lovely day and take care of yourself 😊 Bernadette xx

Hello hope132 . 👋

How very worrying for you and your family. For us with severe lung disease even a slight cold can take us a dozen steps back as far as our health is concerned 😟. It really takes it out of us and it takes a long time to get back to where we were. It will take your dad time too. If he has no appetite , small light meals at shorter intervals will help and calorie drinks are available. Please make sure he has support with housework if he is alone. It can be so exhausting trying to keep things clean and tidy when feeling poorly. If there are any sudden changes do get him to A and E. Just love him and remember that as long as there is life there is always hope. And we must never lose hope. I hope you are doing okay yourself.

Thinking of you,

Cas xx 🌼🌱🌞

Best wishes to you and your dad. It can take a long time to recover from pneumonia even without copd. Keep positive, hope everything improves for you and your dad.

Please do have a good attitude.I have stage 4 COPD and was hospitalised last november with pneumonia,I had oral and IV antibiotics and a massive dose of steroids and I will be honest with you I felt absolutely rotten.I have had a few courses of antibiotics in my time but the ones I was given as an inpatient really knocked me for six.I had an upset stomach and felt sick and was definately not in the mood for food.I was weak and wobbly when I came home after 9 days in there but I gradually got my strength and appetite back.I was very tired and needed to rest and I initially just ate what I fancied and built up from there.Pneumonia is a nasty infection but it can be beaten. If your father ate well before he got it that would have given him the strength to help fight it.There is no reason for him not to get his appetite back .gently does it and you will in time be able to go out to dinner again.Wishing you well and a speedy recovery for your father xx
