Ive not taken doxy Lina but if you've taken four lots in a row Im not surprised you feel tired. If you havent been responding and needed so many courses, do you think you might be needing a different AB? Might be worth asking your GP.

Lina-61 in reply to O2Trees

Yes I've put a call in but only found I can eat fruit for my breakfast as you can't have dairy products so missing my cereal and porridge.

Thanks

I have had two lots of the first AB from the 2 October then and I am now on another AB for infection in my lungs not getting air in my left side.I have now been given a 2nd dose and on them now. I have an under-active thyroid. The GPs don’t want talk to me about it, don’t want to know any symptoms I have had fatigue etc. I have been told don’t come with your symptoms I am in bed ill with this infection just get AB they are not interested in how I am.

Hi Fedup5

I think Gps don't have any idea hoe to treat these type infections if yiu see a consultant maybe get in touch with secretary to find out which ABs you should be on I'm on clarithromycin now as I have right side rib pain

Please consider a good medical herbalist. I am a herbalist student and my peers have had astounding results with various illnesses.

Why can't you have dairy with Doxycycline? I've taken Doxycycline and steroids many times and have never been told not to eat dairy?

Lina-61 in reply to snail

This is what it says on the nhs website and I also have ibs.

How to cope with side effects

What to do about: headaches - make sure you rest and drink plenty of fluids. Don't drink too much alcohol. Everyday painkillers, such as paracetamol and ibuprofen, are safe to take with doxycycline. feeling sick or being sick (nausea or vomiting) - stick to simple meals and don't eat rich or spicy food. It might help to take your doxycycline after a meal or snack but avoid dairy products like milk, cheese and yoghurt. Dairy products can stop your body absorbing your medicine properly. If you are vomiting, drink plenty of water or other fluids. Speak to a pharmacist if you have signs of dehydration, such as peeing less than usual or having dark, strong-smelling pee. Don't take any medicines to treat the vomiting without speaking to a pharmacist or doctor. sensitivity to sunlight - when you go outside, wear sunglasses and clothes that cover you up. Put sunscreen or sunblock on your skin - with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15. (If you have fair skin, you may need a much higher number than this.) Also use a sunscreen product for your lips. Do not use sunlamps or tanning beds. If you get sunburn, there are things you can do to treat yourself

Spoke to gp and he confirmed it

Nobody has ever advised me about that l've always put the nausea down to having lung cancer, secondary liver cancer on top of severe emphysema. I do love my cheese!

Sorry to hear that snail keep well

Lina

in reply to Lina-61

If you want some dairy product have it between doses of doxy. Frankly, I have been taking abs of all sorts for 65 years and despite what they say, what I ate and when never made any difference to their effectiveness.

Hi Lina I felt tired on all 5 antibiotics I took this summer (incl 3 courses of Doxy) and put it down to the infections rather than the meds. Regarding dairy, I haven’t seen the warning but avoid it anyway as it’s not good for dodgy lungs and mucus apparently. I always have almond milk with cereal and soya milk in tea which I don’t mind- and have luckily not had any nausea or tummy problems with Doxy so far.

Lina-61 profile image
Lina-61 in reply to UHelga

Thanks might ring my consultant secretary tomorrow

Shancock profile image
Shancock

Yes I found that a bit. You can have dairy but leave two hours either side of taking the tablet. Maybe if it's your fourth lot you should try another one? When you next see your dr maybe ask how effective they are.

Lina-61 profile image
Lina-61 in reply to Shancock

My gp wouldn't know before I saw the lung consultant I asked him why I was getting these infections and he said probably because I have bronchiectasis

Lina

Shancock profile image
Shancock in reply to Lina-61

Oh right maybe next time you see the specialist ask about other antibiotics as there's lots you could try. We're all different so some work better than others, some people get side effects some don't I suppose. I can't take Augmentin.

Lina-61 profile image
Lina-61 in reply to Shancock

Might ring lung consultant secretary tomorrow to see if she can find out but bronchiectasis hasn't been confirmed another ct scan on the 30th October

Thank you

Had they checked your sputum to see what bacteria you have and what it is susceptible to? Maybe you’re on the wrong antibiotic. I would have thought the tiredness is down to the infection rather than the antibiotics. An infection always wipes me out.

Lina-61 profile image
Lina-61 in reply to WindsweptRissa

Hi WindsweptRissa

I had to supply one for my lung consultant before that I did 3 sputum samples after 3 lots of antibiotics for gp 3rd one came clear then the one I supplied for the lung consultant found the bacteria hence the antibiotcs again felt fine when 3rd sample came back clear now back to square 1.

I can sympathise. I had 2 lots of antibiotics end of May for a Haemophilus influenzae and Moraxella catarrhalis infection. Thought it had gone, felt well for almost 2 weeks then they both came back again, so more antibiotics. Following that doctor wanted a series of samples each 2 weeks apart. First one no bacteria - Yay! But had fungal growth instead - not so yay. Second one the same. Third one clear, finally. Started to feel better at that point, had a couple or so weeks when I started to feel back to normal, started to get more energy and much less breathless. But then the moraxella came back again. So antibiotics again. Finished them a week ago so have to produce another sample this week to check its gone. But been starting to feel not so great again so suspect it’s still been lingering and staring to come back again. It’s a real pain in the posterior and I can sympathise with the fatigue your feeling. I’m a carer for my husband and have two children (8 and 11). I can get the basics done. Everyone is fed, clothed and gets where they need to go and I even manage to walk the dog most days, but there’s a lot I’m not doing which I would like to get done. I was doing a full time degree as well, but I’ve put it on hold for a year because I couldn’t face trying to keep up if I kept getting these infections. Hope you get on top of your bugs soon.

Yes they do make me tired and I was so happy I'm not the only one as I could not find it listed anywhere lol

I cheated and didn't take my am dose today because they make me really nauseated and I just needed a break to get some house chores done..Single motherhood and being that nauseated had thrown me off so I did the no no and skipped just one pill, just today for a break and omg what a difference yes it was the doxycycline making me extra tired.
