Pleurisy pain

Hi all. Recent holiday and picked up what I thought was a chest infection, booked into Doctors 1st day home with chest pains. Pleurisy from mild pneumonia im told. 2 different a/b's and a steroid for my troubles. Pain is non stop, burning in right lung, shoulder, under ribs and heart racing all day, and as for the dizziness. Coughing up what looks like platonium. Rang doctor after 5 days to inform not feeling better and meds are stoning me out. He said come back to him this Friday and we will discuss further action. 2 weeks out of work now (not including weeks hols), boss not well pleased. Couldn't give a monkeys about work tbh, its just the persistent aches n pains. Whats next? What should i be asking for? British living in Ireland, healthcare system here very slow. Like verrrrry sloooow Was told to go private by doctor if i wanted an x ray, still a months wait and €370. Gulp. All help muchos appreciated. M.

Hello Mike_72 and welcome to the forum. Pleurisy is very painful and can last a few weeks. Pleurisy makes a rasping scratchy sound (instead of the silent gliding of the pleural membranes) which the GP can hear with a stethoscope. Please don't hesitate to go back to the GP to get it checked again. It seems easier and less painful to lie down on the side most affected and do take painkillers.

Very slow here in Lincolnshire too Mike. Think most rural areas same. Docs don't want to practice here, n they can't get enough. Good luck Mate. 😊🌻✌️

Thanks Dubba, well rural here, 45 mins from nearest village, doctor an hour away. Wife n kids head off 7.30am and im delighted to see the postman for a bit of company. Men and sickness dont mix. [Edited by moderator.]

Now that really is rural! I,m looking to move house at present. Because I live alone and also to be nearer better Hospital and Docs fascillitis. I wonder, now that you've had A pluerisi, n because you don't seem to taken with your job, wether you're better off moving? Rural places, look fab, I think. The realities are a lot different. 😊✌️🌻

A month wait I think for an X-ray sounds crazy!

Pain killers help, Ibruprofen is good as helps with inflammation if you can take it and some codeine too.

It's a nasty painful one, should start to ease after 2 weeks then it's a waiting game. Hot water bottles help. Lots of rest, vitamin C and fluids.

Go back to the GP if still very bad next week, may need an extra 7 days of abs.

Take it easy and slow though, good luck you have my sympathy
