This is certainly not the time to keep the bad things to yourself Simon. Tell them exactly how things are on a bad day and get as much additional evidence as you can.

I think it also pays to have someone there with you, taking notes if possible as I have heard so many stories about untruthful reports. Good luck with it.

Remember to phone the following day and ask for a copy of the assessor's report. Always useful to have if needed.

First thing to remember is your walking distance before suffering breathlessness is no more than 20 metres and then you really have to think of only worse day happenings if you want enhanced on both care and mobility.

I get PIP. My assessor was very kind but he would not allow the higher rate for mobility because I can plan a journey and can ask for help. I told him how little I can do on a bad day. I told him how long it takes for washing/dressing and how I can't do normal activities any more.

All the bad things you keep to yourself? Now is the time to tell it as it is! He/she can only know how hard life is for you if you tell it to him/her.

No stiff upper lip, no being brave.

When asked by friends I tend to say "I'm fine." However I was having a bad day, a nurse at an appointment asked how I was I answered honestly " Apart from the bronchiectasis, the bronchiolitis obliterans ,and the osteoporosis, exzema, weight gain, bruising, facial hair and steroid cataracts I'm fine thank you"

She was really nice to me.

Good luck with PIP xx

Am with mrsmummy on this - be sure to relay how you feel on the worst days/months/years of your illness. Don't hold back on anything - as gruelling as that is to explain to a complete stranger... You deserve to get all the help that you need.
