After effects of radiotherapy

It’s been 3 days since I attended hospital for the one-off dose of radiotherapy for the tumour in my upper right lung, and I’m feeling really tired and very breathless. I was advised that I would feel tired but didn’t realise that my breathing would appear to be worse than ever - just getting from room to room is exhausting. It’s hard to feel positive when feeling so lousy especially when you’re on your own with no one to give you a hug - really, really missing my husband’s cuddles. Sorry, just feeling very sorry for myself at present.

Don’t be sorry, it’s understandable to be missing your husband and his cuddles.

See how you feel tomorrow and contact your doctor if needs be.

Hope you feel better soon and take care. Xxxx

Thank you Sassy - I’m sure I will feel better soon - it’s been a hard 18 months or so and I have a lot of support from the rest of my family, just occasionally it all gets too much.

Make sure you drink plenty of water, Lmax, because radiotherapy dehydrates you. If that doesn’t help your breathlessness contact your doctor. The radiotherapy causes swelling for a short time and a few days of steroids might help that.

I’m sorry you feel so lonely. It’s natural to be missing a hug and cuddle, especially just now.

Take care,Sue xxx

I'm drinking plenty of water and resting. I think I'm just having one of those days and hopefully will feel better tomorrow, especially if the weather improves slightly!! Thanks for the support

Thank you Pam. Hopefully my breathing will get a bit better, I will always miss my husband and all his love and care and I know he wouldn't want me to give up so will keep on fighting.

Sorry to hear you're feeling low, but that's totally natural, and of course you'll miss those hugs. You're doing great though and I'sure you'll be feeling better soon. Do mention the breathlessness -it is always best to know what to expect etc. There may be some help with it. Stay strong and I'm sending more virtual hugs and all best wishes for your recovery xxx

Oh my Sweetie. Sending you Big Hugs, so Sorry your so Down, especially with your radio. My Daughter who lives in Spain had Breast Cancer 3 years ago, the chemo & radio zapped it away, I so missed not giving cuddles , I couldn't Travel, she did recover and came to UK 5 visits since. I am still waiting for my Lung Transplant, I will be having Lung reduction end of April, my Daughter said she will be here. Only, her recent Mammogram showed up something, and she has to go back Tomorrow for a scan, then seeing the Oncologist on Wednesday. I haven't told anyone yet but I thought that with you wanting Hugs, and me also, maybe the whole Forum can give a Big Huge Hug to us both, and anyone else who needs one.

Sending Love n Hugs to you Lmax. Carolina xxxxx

BIG hugs, Hacienda. Hope all works out for your daughter. It’s SO disappointing having something else to worry about after successful breast cancer treatment. My baby sister had one or two setbacks on the breast cancer road.....very best of luck to you both 🌸💕🌸 xx

So sorry you're having a bad day. The effects of the radiation and missing your husband are just too much to bear at the moment. I've been there love. The first time I came home from hospital to an empty house was dreadful. Trying to be brave isn't going to help, keeping it inside does no good. Let it out, have a damned good cry, you're entitled. And know that we are all putting our arms around you in our minds. God bless, Sheila xxx

I think I have cried myself dry over this last few months - some days are worse than others, but as you say coming home to an empty house is dreadful especially when all you want is someone to comfort you. I was beginning to cope a little better until this latest setback but as I’ve said previously my sons and extended family have been wonderful even though they are suffering too. We will all help each other as best we can. Going to have a little nap now...

Hello Lmax, so sorry to hear your feeling so bad bless you. I don't know how bad you feel after radiotherapy as I've never had it, but I do know about breathing problems it's exhausting, and at times scary. I think that maybe a good idea

I was told by the radiologist that I would feel worse before feeling a bit better so hopefully by the end of this week things will improve slightly. My breathing hasn’t been very good for years but I could carry on as normal doing most things (apart from climbing a mountain!! or even a bit of a hill) so this bout of breathlessness is worrying. However, I’m told it could improve slightly over the next few weeks (fingers and toes crossed). As long as I can get out to do a bit of shopping etc. when the weather improves I don’t mind. Due to see the GP next week anyway so we will see. Thanks for all good wishes and my best to everyone. Xx

Ive just seen your post. I do hope you continue to feel lots better, take care. Recovery mustnt be rushed. You did well to do some ironing. Every little thing we manage is good and we should feel pleased with ourselves. Do take care.
