Beautiful clear water and very shallow ideal for spawning salmon,do you get any bear around here or is it to urban?xx
Oh yes we have the odd bear but they normally get here. It is when people don't fasten their garbage down. Stupid people! Then conservation officers come and they shoot the poor bear. I think they should shoot the people LOL
I meant to say they normally don't get here. We did have one instance where we had a big blue bear trap in front of our garbage cans. But that was a few years ago. I think they like the Organics. Because we're big on recycling here and Organics is all our kitchen scraps. I think they could probably just knock the cans over and Munch away.
its about bye,bye's time for bears now,though the black bear doesn't hibernate like others and just has a deep sleep,but she should be well away from your Organics by now.as you say shoot the stupid peeps not the bears xx

Bears and Eagles ! How wild and exotic compared to sparrows and the odd mouse 
I like sparrows and mice as well as bears and eagles, and I'm not scared of those 😄

Very much so! I was fortunate enough to go to Yellowstone park some years ago where we saw a bear. Even at a safe distance it was pretty scary, it was dragging a dead elk up a river bank and running with it. I never knew bears could move that fast and to see one drag a large animal up a steep bank 'at speed' was scary. We were told that the safest way to avoid bears was to wear or carry something that would make a noise as that would warn the bear of our presence (the last thing I'd want to do) and - scare it off! Apparently they're 'normally' quite reclusive and only attack if they're startled - 'unless they're hungry'! So - how do you know if a bear is hungry? Well, he won't run and hide if you're ringing a bell......but don't worry he won't be hungry for too much longer😧😳

It was. A truly wonderful place, awesome - on so many levels.
People are pretty ignorant on the Lower Mainland Vancouver area. They dump garbage out and leave it overnight for the garbage man to pick it up and don't securely fasten the top of the garbage can down. So what's a bear to do? Why eat of course! And that's when the trouble begins, the conservation officers are called out and the next thing you know the Bears in a cage getting carted off to the woods. Most of the time that does not work. The bear just comes back and then of course they are killed. It's a crying shame it really is! They're beautiful majestic creatures and they were here first!
Do you not have any bears or eagles? We certainly have a lot of them around here... eagles that is!
There may be Hawks and other birds of prey on the highest mountain peaks but to my knowledge, no Eagles. And most certainly no bears

Do we have them in Ireland I wonder ? I've only ever heard of hawks in that context. The mountains in the UK are higher I guess.
But whether or which, we surely don't have them flying around our rivers downtown. We have a river opposite our house and I enjoy watching the bats swooping over it on summer nights.
teddy bears are very cute but a glimpse of the real thing, trundling through the trash cans would be very exciting. We'll all have to decamp to Vancouver and have a picnic by the Capilano River.
Is that 2 first class tickets i need to purchase now?i have probably skied over them many times on our Canadian skiing holidays but they would have been dreaming for bear kingdom whilst i glided overhead,Canada is in my blood as dad was born there and i will return,with my Irish friend if she would but do me the honour one day,get you home now lassie to your own bed soon xx

Your dad being born there is obviously a huge connection to Canada S, not to mention having ski holidays there.
Funny thing is, I had quite the little obsession with Canada and saved and wangled my way to a trip to Toronto. This was brought on by being addicted to a whole clutch of Canadian authorsike Margaret Atwood, Carol Shields and Alice Munro. We spent two weeks and drove down over the border to Niagara Falls and Upper New York State.
So I'm well up for a return trip. Are we bringing Scruffy ?

Stoppingoff at Montrealand Quebec and maybe even Ottawa to say hello to the oh-so-charming Justin (Trudeau).
Then all those exotically named states like Sasketchwan, Manitoba, Alberta and over the Rockies to the west. Lindy will have her hands full with guiding duties.
Dad was born in a little place called cornwall Ontario on the banks of the st lawrence,even though he had few memories he remembered Canadian indians on the river,our son George has some land in Manitoba in a place called Rossburn so we can stop off for tea.B.C and the west coast are my favourites,people more friendly and views to die for.stop it B.J,go home now i want you outta there .don't like the thought of you being in hospital lol x
I'm not mad about being here either but needs must at the moment.If they can sort me out I'll be very grateful. The IVs always take at least 14 days. Things are improving but there's still a way to go. Trying to be upbeat and focus on the positives.

Because people with Bronchiectasis usually require a double dose of abx for two weeks, to hit their infections.
I was just informed by my specialist that she wasn't even going to treat me with E.coli in my lungs can you believe it? Thank goodness my GP did. So it got knocked out of my lungs and now I can breathe a lot better. I also have bronchiectasis. It's the worst isn't it?

I beg to differ, I'm definitely more scared of them! Having seen what they can do with a whole elk (much bigger than me) in their mouth, and how fast they can move I have a healthy respect for those lovely teddy bears.
Now that is the ultimate. Is that water or paint? Truly there is no more water like that!
Its water it's a river. About 500 yards Downstream is the ocean. At the end of every summer the salmon make their run up this River and spawn. There was hardly any water though this year. We hardly had any rain. I think the only thing that saved us was the snowfall from the year prior. The snow melts in the summertime and goes into a reservoir about 5 miles Upstream there's a dam and every year they have to open up the dam and let some water out. That way they fish can go upstream and spawn. It's pretty fascinating there's a whole cool ecosystem going on here. And I'm pretty darn blessed to be living where I'm living.
That is so awesome. It's just one of those things that make it all seem so good, special.

Is the Capilano suspension bridge still around?
It is it's about a mile up the road mile and a half. Oh yeah it's a big huge tourist attraction now we got buses like growing past the house here especially in the summertime. I guess they do it up in the winter like for Christmas and that with lots of Lights. I haven't been there for years so isn't it funny you live so close to something that people pay big money to see and you don't even go there yourself!
We went to Vancouver for the World's Fair in I think 1986, but don't recall if we went to see it on that trip. We had been a few times in the 70s when we were in Vancouver. In the 70s there was also a campground at the end or base of one of the bridges but can't recall if it was the Lion's Gate or not but am guessing it is no longer there as I would suspect that would be prime real estate now. One of the trips in the 70 s was to see the tall ships as there was some big event with all of the tall ships coming.
Well surprise surprise yes it is still at the base of the Lions Gate Bridge. They must have had a hundred year lease or something. Because nobody has touched that land although it is our indigenous peoples land. So they own it and they probably manage it as well.
I knew it had been owned or run by indigenous people but had assumed by now it may have been redeveloped to make more money or sold as I am sure given real estate in Vancouver it would bring a pretty good price. Haven't been there for 40 years but sure enjoyed it when we stayed there back then.
Yes I feel really blessed to be living in this part of the world.
