Salbutamol gives me the jitters!

Hi, I have mild asthma which only tends to trouble me when I have a chesty cold, and one or two other circumstances.

I'm just recovering from a virus and it's set my asthma off, so I've been using my Salbutamol inhaler quite regularly over the past week. Today and yesterday I've started t feel very weak and shaky after using the Sabutamol. It's helped my breathing, but left me feeling quite "wired". Then I can't slow down and relax which in itself is counterproductive when I'm trying to calm my asthma and coughing. I do generally tend to be quite sensitive to anything that has a stimulant effect (I'm assuming that Salbutamol contains some kind of stimulant). I have to avoid caffeine like the plague!

Are you aware of an alternative reliever to Salbutamol that I might tolerate better?

Many thanks in advance ☺

Hi

You can try Bricanyl active ingredient terbutaline

Relievers are a very safe and effective medicine and have very few side effects. Some relievers can slightly increase your heartbeat or give you mild muscle shakes, but these effects are more common when taking high doses. These side effects generally wear off within a few minutes, or a few hours at most.

I use this, and it is effective for me, but the info sheet says it can have the same side effects as Salbutimol, which may well be true, other than we are all different (different strokes, different folks). It works for me, Salbutimol does not.

Yes, I'm getting the shakes increasingly when I take salbutamol. I have to make sure I'm sitting down before I take it now.

I had to stop taking Ventolin many years ago because it gave terrible shakes, I changed to Bricanyl and have been fine with it every since

take care

Thank you so much for your replies. I will go and see my GP for an alternative. It seems to affect their people in the same way. It's a pity because I also find it very effective in easing my breathing. 🌼

Sorry for late response, but I got very shakey, trembly and heart racing on Salbutamol. I have now been changed to Atrovent which is so much better for me as I have no problems at all with that.
