i went to the doctor yesterday with my parents for a yearly checkup. my doctor just randomly told me to go sit on the chair and made me wear an oxygen mask, without even telling me why! i had to wear the mask for two hours straight. i have been having difficulty breathing lately, but would my doctor be able to tell??

Hi I wouldn't think this would just be random! Don't forget your doctor is medically trained and can spot breathing difficulties a mile off. Maybe your lips or fingertips had turned blue? I do think it's strange s/he didn't give you any explanation though.

Is your doctor organising any tests for you? Do you have any diagnosed breathing issues?

i used to actually suffer from asthma and it was very severe at some point. except now i don't have it anymore.

Well the doctor obviously saw something so why don't you ask him/her?

Hi katherine8643 and welcome to the forum. You mention your parents attending your yearly check-up with you and I am wondering if this is because you are very young?

Your doctor could have done this for a number of reasons. One could be that by giving you oxygen via a mask at a low percentage or you could have been on air he was isolating you from triggers such as pollen. If your breathing improved it could indicate to him the your breathing was affected by external factors. There are other reasons the next time you go perhaps you should write down a few questions that you and your parents could ask.
