Running Halted!!

Hi all

Managed to pick up an infection. Went for a run last night and really struggled to breathe. Woke up this morning with an infection. Managed to get appointment with the Doc so have antibiotics and steroids. Hoping to get back to my running by next week. I just hope I don't lose too much fitness.

Thought I was safe in the summer months!

Hi HH

I feel.so bad for you. I am a gym goer and know how hard it is to get back up.to speed.

A couple.of weeks off the exercise takes months to recoup but take it easy don't over do it.

I cannot run where I live but am.moving to 'flat ground' and would love to hear your story of how you started.

Be patient.

Take care

Doc said I must not run for a week apparently it exacerbates the problem and causes more damage!

Panicking as want to run for the BLF in October in the Great South Run 5k.

I went to P Rehab and started the NHS Couch to 5k too. Couldn't run 50 yards before.

If you can't work the pod casts on your phone you can get a Couch to 5k plan to print out on

Www.therunningbug.co.uk it is better than the NHS one I have been doing as it builds up your running in smaller blocks. You can repeat each week before moving on.

I did week One twice and didn't move on until I was comfortable.

Try it you will surprise yourself

Hi Carol how are you. Miss the course seeing everyone. Really hacked off. Went to the Gym at the hospital last week for an hour. Used the dreaded bike lol for more than 3 mins. Legs killed me the next day lol.

Ask your doc for an emergency pack. It saves appointments and the doc's time. Also you can nip it in the bud before it gets a good hold.

What a shame but don't try to rush back to running it may delay your recovery. Just take it easy and give your body time to recover xx

Sorry to hear you're under the weather. Why not ask your doctor for an emergency course of antibiotics & steroids so you can start taking them immediately you feel an infection coming on. Having this emergency pack is a godsend especially if you become sick on a weekend when the GP is not working. Get well soon x

I am doing OK been to the outdoor gym in the park that's nice bit of a struggle getting there its uphill but lovely when you get there as you have got sea views .I walk the cycle tracks when I've got company they are lovely and flat . Take it easy and rest as much as you can .Am hoping to see Dec at outdoor gym one day .

I'm a runner too and I really hate it when an infection stops me in its tracks! I always get one summer infection - usually chest and sinus. Hopefully you'll be back on the trail soon but in the meantime wrap up well and get yourself out for a few nice walks.

Hope you feel better soon. Frustrating when you have all this momentum going for you and a infection stops you in your tracks. We all know you'll be back out there quick enough.

Feel better.😊

Didn't enjoy running, even in the days when I was fit. I dunno. I couldn't get into the swing of working out at a gym, but didn't mind hard, physical work. Now I can't do either, so there's progress !

Had a surprise 67th last Thursday - my friends all said they couldn't make it round to mine for a knees-up, so I went to the pub. And there they were ! A goo night was had by all, and The Boss says I didn't insult anyone. I improve.

Managed a 1.1 Km walk on Sunday, because the morning mist had cleared. It really is quite an interesting course. I get to look in peoples' back yards and see what they're doing with their gardens. One place has a fig tree with the fruit hanging out over the road where I walk. Am building up to walking into the next town, but you don't like to rush these things............

Take care,

Dec

Lol good on you.

My horse trod on my foot this morning which is now badly bruised and black so can't even walk very well let alone run😂

I hope someone up there is not dropping hints lol

Don't forget the Nordic Sticks they honestly do assist with the walking xx
