I've had about four of these tests in the last 6 months. I now really, really hate it even though I know it's crucial to measure my lung function. "keep going, keep going, keeeep going". And nice though the nurses always are, and if I had the puff and if I wasn't locked into the damn thing..!

So far I've got away with going into it by insisting they let the door open a little bit because I'm claustrophobic. You should try that next time 
I'm sure the results aren't that more significant done inside or outside the 'phone box.

I'm not that claustrophobic. It's the breathing out and out that kills me! And there's no avoiding that..
True ! But it seems to me that having to do all that huffing/puffing in a restricted space makes it even more difficult. But either way, I agree that it's not exactly fun.
Hi Bob, I know what you mean about the blow blow blow until you turn purple and they still ask for just a little more, but I've never had that experience in a tardis. I've spent a few weeks in a C-PAP pressurised space helmet in ITU which was an interesting experience.
I always see my spirometry's as a challenge and try to beat my last reading, that way I don't think to much about the uncomfortable feeling whilst doing it.
Tony I know it may sound a bit weird to you but I quite fancy a go in the tardis
Me too !! I always like to see what my readings are, and ANY tests they do give me, I really do try my hardest, unfortunately the results never really improve...but as long as there is no massive decline I am happy
They can ask you to 'blow blow blow' notlocal, but they cannot MAKE you....blow out until you feel you really cannot blow any more..

Nightmare notlocal! I've only had the pleasure once last year and it made me gag! that plastic pipe thing in your mouth is yuck, I suppose it's a necessary test and I hope you are doing well, huff xxx

Lol, yes I walked out with it in my pocket yesterday. I'm sure the NHS doesn't reuse them surely?

I hope you all know we are blowing up lilo's for the staff really. 
That's funny I couldn't blow up a balloon let alone a lilo but it's nice to dream about having lungs that powerful.

It does look like a time machine. I've had lung function tests but never seen one of these, it makes me laugh they put a clip on your nose and tube in your mouth then ask you to breathe, really you sure. But your right the nurses are very nice. xxxx
They have one of these In the PFT labs in both of the hospitals I've attended in recent years but nobody explained the difference between doing the test outside (as before) and doing it inside. I did attempt to do it inside once but almost immediately felt under additional breathing pressure and the test was continued outside.

I just know now that when I get that hospital appointment letter that I'm going inside the Tardis again, and - dread! I can't think inside there, I can only think outside the box (sorry!)
I laughed harder at this post than I probably should have, but I really liked how you called it the Tardis. I know it's a pain, but hang in there, they are supposed to know what they're doing by giving you all those tests, just wish those nurses and doctors would have a longer attention span so you wouldn't have to do them so often :/
They always seem to stop you just before you pass out, have been in the box a few times now
