I found this place locally where people aged 55 or over can go in and meet others. Met this old guy at park who told me about it.

So I trundled along Monday and found myself playing scrabble with this old geezer and quite a posh woman. Great fun. Glad I went otherwise I wouldn't have had any company at all that day. They do arts and crafts, bingo, knitting (yuck), writing and a whist drive. Not many there but bet there will be when sunshine stops.

Hope all my friend are well and happy.

Ps This guy was in wheelchair with oxygen. He said he had emphysema...told him about BLF.

That sounds a good place Bev. I wonder if there is anything like that anywhere else. Are you going again?

Should think so Anna. I did google ages ago but nothing came up in my area. Its in the same grounds as a big church. Often churches do things for older people. You might not find it on google but look around at your local churches.

Excellent idea. Who won at the scrabble? :0 xx

Oh will go again. It was quite fun. I won the 1st scrabble game (used to play a lot with my mum - she always beat me) but 2nd one just came 3rd (ok last if you insist :) )

Sounds like a good time was had. There used to be something similar near my dad's house, I think it was council owned, a little hut/bungalow hybrid that opened every day 10 - 12 and 2 - 4. lots of people used it too. Nothing like this near me though. :(

Like I said Toci I found nothng on google. If you have any churches near you have a gander! But if you live way out in countryside probably not. I live in a small town about 3 miles away from the centre. I'm glad I found it - at least I can have some company now on days where I don't go out in evening!

I am not exactly rural but live in a small village (1 shop, 2 bus stops) and have no transport since I had to give up driving, so quite isolated. That is why I would have liked KOTC's idea for an online Breathe Easy group to take off. x

Sounds OK, amazing what you can find out in the park. Our village used to have a knit and natter, I think there was more natter (gossip) than knitting.

Tis true Libby. I am always having a natter any chance I get... :d

It was quite a good evening, not much knitting was done, and sometimes I feared for my life with some of them lol I used to put old CDs on for them,Matt Munroe and things like that.a lot of them said that it was the only time they really got out to see others.luckily when we sold up the new people did say they would carry on with it. :) :)

I used to belong to a knit and bitch group that is held at one of our local pubs. The problem is like with lots of these things they take place in the evenings and that is my worst time. Before I got really bad I did go to the local U3A which was good with different groups for different interests

This is the link you might find a group near you

Thanks for that Janet. Will have a look. Going out soon - darts...

Thankfully all mine during the day. They do have a whist drive on Wednesday evening - might go to that.

So pleased you have found something that gets you out and chatting and gets the grey matter going. Enjoy yourself.

Good for you Bev and hope you keep going and meeting new people. I'm with you on the knitting yuck! (yes, and sorry to you knitter). Hope it all works well for you. Things are looking up. Yeah! xxxxxx :)

Brilliant news Bev!!!! That's probably what most of us singletons lack, organised company that stretches our minds in a social setting. Keep going Bev. It can only but do you good to get out the house. :d

My sister is in an active retirement group and has a wonderful time with them. This year they are going to the Algarve for a week beginning of September. They are always arranging something. She has asked me to join several times I would do but I don't want to be the youngest in the group there all over 65. I have 10 years to go for that hope I'll be half as active as they are. Well done Bev for joining. Hope you have lots of good times.

Oooo would love a group that goes on holiday! I don't often go away because I don't like going on my own. :). Will have a look around. Thanks copdber.
