Please can anyone tell me how to get a blue badge as i really struggle if i cant park near to shops appointments etc ?

Hi kujude, I have just applied to my local council and when we were filling the form in and they said that the options to you are normally, a blank refusal, contact your consultants for a medical update, or they issue one on what they see, Now have an appointment to see a medical assessor this Tuesday who in turn decides, don't know if they all work on the same lines, mattcass

Type Blue Badge and your local council name into Google and the information should appear, we are lucky where I live and have a very helpful team at the other end of the phone. It's worth a little research to see what the rules are about who they issue them too, Here they were quite happy to tell me.

I have a blue badge for which I am grateful, but my hubby has to go for a CT scan today so my daughter is having to drive us because you can bet all of the disabled spaces will be taken. She can drop us off and then go find a space.

If you use google for blue badge application - you can print off an application form. In our area my husband was called for a quick assessment - totally painless! All done and dusted - Good Luck - it is a god send for us! TAD xx

to get a blue badge you have to be getting highest rate mobility

Not quite right, that is one of the criteria for automatic issue of a blue badge, but you can still apply if you don't get any DLA at all.

Your council will contact your doctor for confirmation of your condition, so it is probably wise to discuss with your doctor your intention to apply for a 'Blue Badge' .

When I asked my GP about a blue badge he told me that in our area (Dorset) he has nothing to do with it. After all, he says, all he can do is ask someone whether they can walk across a car park and, maybe, watch out of the window to see if they can! So I went to my local council office (Weymouth) who put me on a free phone to Dorset County Council where a very polite and sympathetic person took me through a questionnaire and told me my application would be assessed, basically inability consistently to walk 50 metres without pausing for breath. About two days later I got the approval with a request for a small fee, can't remember how much but think it was ten quid or so, so sent it off. Another very few days saw me the proud owner of a badge. Couldn't have been easier. No need for examinations or anything rotten like that.

I was turned down initially by Dorset, but went to see my GP who wrote a very uppity letter, and eventually I obtained a badge. I did wonder how on earth this could be assessed on the phone....

to everyone applying for a blue badge make sure you cant walk more than a few yards without stopping to catch your breath as you will be turned down even walking across the car park you will be watched good luck to everyone from marguarita

I had no problem getting mine, applied to Dorchester, sent the £10 of with picture and within 2 wks all done and dusted,,,i presume they just phone up my surgery to verify what i had put on the form

Am just about to apply but find the criteria quite confusing. How far I can walk before I have to stop depends on the weather (cold, windy etc) or whether I am carrying shopping or if there's a slight slope, even on whether I'm tired or not (I am trying to continue working but FEV decreasing (38 currently).
