Skipping beats/palpitations

Hi, I wonder if anyone has any answers about this arrhythmia that I've been having lately?I had a heart attack in 2016 aged 43, and suffer with angina. I have had the odd heart palpitations here and there, but for the past month or so my heart skips a beat and then thuds sometimes in the epigastric area but most of the time in my chest. This happens sporadically throughout the day. It could be over an hour without it occurring, or it could occur a few times in a minute. When it happens close together I get a little dizzy and feel like blood has rushed to my head.

I have a 24hr monitoring soon, but I was wondering if anyone has a clue what this could be??

Many thanks

Sharon

Hi

You don't say how they handled your heart attack. Did you get stent, bypass surgery? just meds?

But palpitations can be a sign something is not right with the heart, though in most healthy individuals they are benign.

In the months and weeks before I got my stent, I had episodes of palpitations. So please get it it checked out. Also get thyroid checked.

Thanks for the reply, I had a stent in the LAD, I think that's what I read but it was a long time ago. I've suffered quite a bit with angina more recently, but it is weird how this arrhythmia/palpitations just started and have continued for over a month. But as I originally said, I can go hours without or can get a few in a minute. However I have them everyday

hi

I’ve had Arythmia for years but got worse 16 months ago. Similar feeling to you.

After it skips a beat I get a sudden warm whoosh of blood round my body.

Feel the cold more. Wake up at night chest pounding. Other times I feel hot for days. Very weird sensation.

Been Bradicardic all my life without knowing it grew up with it and knew none the wiser until it went AFib in 2023 and had been Tachy cardic AFib arterial flutter.

Ablation x 2 is my only help todate but short lived cardio version failed twice.

2 weeks time more cardio version with new technology Optrell mapping catheters not used in my hospital yet but they have their lead cardiologist one of Londons best - professor his specialist field

All heart drugs they’ve tried x 8 I’m intolerance to. Been in hospital 16 times in last year. 4 times this year . Can’t stop heart from racing. Bloods always come back normal

I’m now classed as very complex

Not sure what will happen if next surgery doesn’t last.

Feel like a zombie drifting from one day to the next. So high on meds that very little effect.

Sorry this doesn’t offer you a solution but it not alone

Oh no, I'm really sorry for what you're going through, I really do appreciate you telling me your story. So what is the diagnosis? I may have overlooked it in your answer, there's just so many different things going on. I'm a little worried of what I'm going to face tbh.But thanks so much.

Diagnosed Jan 24 with Tachycardia, Bradicardia, Arrythmia. AFib, arterial flutter. Basically heart had no rhythm it went from 23 - 184 bpm and everything inbetween. Put beta blockers and blood thinners immediately. They have tried every med in their arsenal. The last and current one has very little effect. I’m medication intolerant. Also I have low blood pressure meds all Lower it more

Had cardio version Jan 24. Latest 11 days, cardio ablation right atrium May 24. Some resolve. Aug 24 worlds smallest wireless most accurate cardiac monitor injected into my chest linked via phone app /internet monitored by my hospital 24/7 as my heart is so screwed up. I can highlight any incidents. What I’m doing how feel and comments. It has parameters set so if it drops below 40 and above 150 I get a call to check I’m ok if I don’t notify them first like if I’m asleep

Had more cardio Ablation Jan 25 in a major London cardiac hospital this time left atrium, they also found id had a silent heart attack. Came out of surgery with perfect heart rate of 83/84 but only lasted 2 1/2 days then went back up racing and has since. Feb 25 they tried cardio version again lasted 15 minutes

They then referred me back to London although urgent wait list was 3-4 months. Been back in hospital twice since for 5 days just trying everything to keep heart rate down damage limitation. That has now been expedited to 6 May for further left atrium ablation using new technology not use in this hospital todate. Very expensive bit of kit Optrell mapping catheters all computerised and has a much better success rate in trials at Papworth June last year then released for use Oct 24 they are bringing in one of londons top cardiologists a professor who specialises in very complex cases for AFib and Arrythmias hoping this will continue work afterwards.

I’ve not been worried by any of the surgery it’s afterwards that concerns me with failure then putting my life back on hold waiting months for more surgery. I’ve got nothing but respect for everyone who’s looked after me, they all read my notes and have time to listen to me then an awful lot of head scratching

It’s all down to a faulty gene inherited from my mother.

Watch this space 🤞

Ps this is the shortened version 🥱😧

I got irregular heartbeats straight after my 3 stents were inserted. I didn't reslise what it was at first and spent a few months chopping and changing meds trying to find out what was causing it. Eventually I discovered the bp med was raising my potassium levels which in turn can give you ectopic heartbeats. They said I could come off as my bp isn't that bad. At it's worst I felt like I was going to pass out. I take the statin atorvastatin which can also raise potassium but not so severely so I'm careful on what I eat.

Thanks for your reply, I'm on ramipril for BP and also atorvastatin, so that's really helpful and something to be looked at. Thank you

Yes it was Ramipril I was taking for bp.
