Heart Failure

Hello to all this may concern.I have had heart problems for many years due to cardiomyopathy obviously inherited in my case from my mothers side of our family as her and all her siblings unfortunately had this.I have had numerous stents fitted and 18 months ago had bypass, which seamed to change the flows of blood around my body including my feet that were always extremely cold.Unfortunately the bypass was not acceptable for my body and I had numerous problems because of it.Last September i was in the back garden playing with our grandchildren and fell over on the patio as if I miss trod,i rose and told myself off then 2 minutes later i was in arrest, one of my daughters and my wife gave me cpr and by the time the medics arrived i had passed, however after 30 minutes they bought me back and off to hospital I went. This is a rough outline for people who are worried about heart failure, the heart teams wherever you are in the British isles are absolutely fantastic, this obviously includes the after care support from the heart failure specialists who have been a part of my life for several years now right up to yesterday as I was discharged from there care. This is not because I’ve been cured but because they have got me to a place where I feel ok( medications etc) I can’t thank them all enough.so for everyone out there heart failure is not the end by any means yes it changes your life style in many ways and you may sleep a lot more and also have to take many pills, but please get on with your lives the best you can as we all have a very short time on our amazing planet, with some amazing people (heart specialists) in it.Hope this helps averyone.

Thank you cate it’s very sad that we have all had to chase our tails at times due to paying bills, cars and holidays etc,it’s not until we become unwell that we realise there’s so much more to life than what we all believe for what ever reasons.Certainly changed mine for the better.Keep well Peter

Yes your definitely right, we work hard, go about our lives not thinking what can hit you. I retired 6 years ago and thought would do so much. I am fighting back now after my AFib diagnosis,.I had very bad fluid retention not sure if it's meds or not, but am on the right track now, trying to do everything to maintain healthy as I can. Keep well. Cate

Hello Yes very similar but unfortunately I went into AF after heart bypass and even after restarting my heart made no difference so they fitted an ICD hoping will never need it but does make you feel ok knowing it may help if needed.Hope you stay well summertime coming.Peter

Hi! Just going to jump in here! I have HCM and AFib. Had an ICD and a pacemaker installed last month, now there’s another new thing and that’s swollen ankles!

Already on bendroflu… something!

Did a medication help you?

Hello

My heart failure specialist put me on Furosemide 2x20 mg and that done the trick for me and a bonus is that you can basically control the dosage yourself or as I did stop taking it as you will know what you are needing them again.keep well Peter by the way that’s a daily dose.
