I’ve had AF for over a year and has cardioversion on10/1/25. Stopped Bisoprolol ( could not tolerate) and started Diltiazem on 11/1/25. I felt so well over the weekend but did not overdo it as instructed.
checked pulse this morning & it was irregular so did ECG and I am back in AF.
I am beyond upset- has anyone else experienced this and is it temporary or will it be AF permanently again ?

The last cardioversion I had, about six to seven years ago now, was after a three month bout of afib, that was the worst I have ever had with awful symptoms, I was desperate for the cardioversion by the time I had it.
A couple of days later I walked very slowly around a supermarket I was very careful, later that evening I felt my heart lurching and went into afib, I could have cried.
It lasted 18 hours then self reverted.
I saw an EP shortly after who put me on flecainade and felt really well for ages after so it can self revert and I hope yours has and you’re feeling better.
Thank you for responding - I’m pleased you reverted to sinus. I’ve been in AF for over 2 years ( GP said Edoxaban was the correct treatment) & this has resulted in an enlarged Atrium, so it was always a long shot …
I’m still in AF - Flecadine has been increased to 100mg twice a day - I’ll have to see if this changes things but I’m not hopeful😔
Hopefully the flecainade will do the trick, mine has been increased to 100mg twice a day back in December and I haven’t taken a kardia reading for a couple of weeks now.
I was plagued with pvcs that gave me chest aches and episodes that would last hours until I took extra flec. (Trying to avoid food with it)
My side effects I got when I first went on it have returned, nothing too bad, but I know these will ease off.
They had increased it by an extra 50 in the middle of the day but this did not show the improvement the twice one hundred has.
The longest I have gone before self reverting in the past before flecainade was seven days.
There’s still hope you can self revert, I hope you do.
