Hi I was smoking up to my HA I had the stop smoking team come and see me and they have put me on to vapes with a low nicotine I am hoping then to wean myself off the vape in time I am sure it's better than cigarettes as the tapes have no tar in them
The NHS Approach stopping smoking 🚬 like they are getting a commission on nicotine replacement therapy (they are no Better than cigarette companies)How are you supposed to rid yourself from nicotine by ingesting more in a different way??
If anyone is serious about quiting nicotine read Alan Carrs, Easy way to stop smoking 🚬
Funny thing is a stroke consultant advised me to switch to vaping from smoking after I'd had a stroke that was caused by medication. I didn't do it and took medication to quit instead. A year smoke free now. Has to be his choice. No one can force him.
I just don't get how any form of nicotine can be good for you. 🤷 especially after a HA. Before I was discharged from hospital they offered me patches, gum, vapes. I declined. Like I said to them I've had a HA I think that is a very good reason to stop smoking, don't you. They were convinced I couldn't do it without any form of nicotine. That was 4 years ago and have never touch a cigarette since.
I smoked for 52 years before my CABG surgery. I really struggled missing my fags afterwards and tried vaping. I don't know if things are different now but six years ago the vape liquid I used to buy was rated at 12 per cent. I moved down gradually to ever weaker solutions to 3 per cent. Then the day came I tried 0 per cent. I found it quite pleasant. A few weeks later it dawned on me that I was no longer nicotine dependant. I stopped vaping, so in my case I have to say vaping helped me.
I do not understand why any one would vape(or smoke for that matter), the dangers are frequently aired. And what about pollution from discarded vapes, and the battery problem - batteries using up rare metals!
You have clearly never smoked!! If you start you become addicted very quickly. It is extremely enjoyable too. You don't understand because you have never smoked!! For those of us who have, or do, it is completely understandable!!! I smoked for 12 years and it took a heart attack to make me go cold turkey and stop!! Had it not been for that I would still be smoking today!!!
The advantage of vaping is that you can slowly reduce the level of nicotine ingested. It took me a while but when I got down to zero, suddenly there didn't seem to be any point any more. Any level of nicotine is bad for you but you can wean yourself off it.
Nicotine may be addictive but the most dangerous thing in smoking is the burning of the tobacco and the tar it produces, the well known carcinogens produced by burning the products. I was a moderate smoker since the age of 16. Vaping is helping me a lot. Benefits: Firstly my "smokers cough" disappeared over a period of a few weeks and doctor was pleased about that. It is somewhat cheaper than tobacco products. You can choose your nicotine content and that can be reduced to zero therefore gradually weaning yourself off nicotine altogether. I and my clothing no longer stink of smoke. I no longer feel the craving that I did with smoking I can go longer without a nicotine hit. Downside: It is true we don't know the effects of long term vaping (we do with tobacco). It produces some plastic waste. I haven't quite managed to quite altogether yet.
I think the jury is still out with regard to the long-term dangers associated with vaping. I seem to recall something about "bubble lung" but never really did look into in any great detail as I've never vaped. I managed to stop smoking (finally!) in late 2016 after retiring early. When I went to my cardiac rehab courses following my HA in 2022 I was surprised to see vaping "recommended". From what I understood it's seen as better than smoking but, ideally, neither is the preferred option.
Hi, I smoked approx 20 a day and more at the weekends, then way more on holidays!! When I had my first of 3 heart attacks I stopped immediately. Then I had a double CABG . I haven't smoked since 2021 and don't miss it. I would still be happily smoking had I not had these health issues. No one spoke to me about smoking when I was in hospital!? My condition is genetic so maybe that's why? They did not advise vaping at all!! In fact they spoke of the dangers of it, saying it was no safer than a cigarette!? It can cause all sorts of problems that cigarettes can't, and there way more chemicals in vapes than in a cigarette. I didn't try any kind of alternatives, or patches, gum etc. I just stopped cold turkey!! Best thing I ever did. I don't drink either since 2021. Don't miss that either. I wouldn't listen to anyone when I was a smoker as I enjoyed my cigarettes and had no intention of stopping!! You have to really want to,or in my case, get such a fright that you just stop!! Your brother has to be in the frame of mind to want to stop. No amount of talking from you will change his mind. Its an addiction and for anyone that says they don't understand anyone who choses to smoke?? They have never smoked!! It's very enjoyable!!! Simple!!!
I'm not sure it is enjoyable. I think it is more of an addicition. The only pleasure is in quelling the symptoms of addiction. If you really think about it do you actually enjoy every cigarette you smoke? Aren't some of them just because it's a habit?
I know I didn't actually enjoy most of the cigarettes I used to smoke.
After my heart attack I was like I’m going to stop vaping, I’d already given up cigarettes with its use, As the words left my mouth my doctor said don’t do that, just stopping is just as stressful and we need your stress levels to stay as they are, to this day we don’t know what caused the blocked artery as 10 minutes later I was told I needed OHS due to rheumatic fever damaging my mitrial valve as a kid.
Was told they preferred I vaped than smoked and to stay as was and over time reduce the nicotine level.
Neither option is a good choice, but the more you tell someone to stop, the more they will dig their heels in and refuse. You have to give them the information and let them decide. Xx
My daughter started vaping when my wife passed away in 2023 She had never smoked before. Now she is addicted to vaping. But yesterday she bought a different type as they didn't have hers in the shop. She immediately had an allergic reaction and was rushed to hospital. After treatment she was ok.So I say stay off them god knows what shit they mix in them for a better profit.
