Went to A&E on 21st August with racing heart, palpitations and feeling really unwell. Was diagnosed with an atrial flutter, prescribed Bisoprolol and edoxoban. Went for an echocardiogram on 20th October and waiting to hear back. How long do they take please ? Still waiting to hear about the 24 hour ecg appointment.

it takes a few weeks, especially if your hospital is in a different foundation to your go. Can you check your medical records? You are looking for a letter from hospital to gp. My chart ,the hospital portal or system online.

Thank you for your reply, I am looking at my NHS app most days to see if it’s been updated. I didn’t ask at the clinic when I would hear back, will give it another week then phone the gp surgery.

hello flower lady

I had annual echocardiograms and often didn’t hear for weeks. But then I had the fifth annual echo and the consultant was on the phone the next day. It was bad news. I needed hospital treatment as soon as possible.

So my experience is that you will hear if it’s urgent, but not if there is no immediate problems.

Now I still have annual scans but the results are now given within minutes. My hospital has changed arrangements and rebuilt the cardiac department. A specialist nurse tells me the results straight away. What a delightful change.

Thank you for your reply all this is very new to me. I will wait to hear back and keep taking the medication. It must be so reassuring for you to be told your results after your echocardiogram.

I had my valve replacement four years ago. Once I entered the hospital, it was a very good experience. Wonderful. Ok the recovery at home was three months, but it was a good time. Then the recovery was superb. Brilliant, miraculous. A golden moment in my life.

I now have no fear at all when having my annual echo.

Best wishes

Sooty.

I see my cardiologist immediately after my echo (he's in the consultants' clinic attached to the hospital). He goes over the results with me, and then I get a copy of his report in the mail in a couple of days.

But my previous guy definitely subscribed to the "we'll let you know what we think you need to know" plan -- which usually meant I had to call my GP after a couple of weeks.

If you can find your way into one of the quick turnaround setups, they're worth their weight in gold....
