Just been diagnosed with Afib prescribed Eliquis and Metoprolol to take along with my regular blood pressure medicine Valsartan

Have been extremely tired shortness of breathe I am overweight and 66 years old so Initially thought it was my age Hoping I can resume exercising and get some energy back feeling nervous about the whole thing

Does it take a while for the medicine to help? I feel weak and have no stamina but hoping exercise will help me

Have a word with your GP about your symptoms. I would think that your beta blocker may need adjusting in dosage. We are all different and the meds need to be tailored to our sensitivities.

Welcome Bodie. I am sure you will get lots of help and support on here. It’s all a bit of a shock when you are first diagnosed and my anxiety went through the roof. I had never heard of AF. The good news is that it is treatable and not a terminal illness. It can take some time to adjust to the medications and finding the ones that suit you. Changing your lifestyle, and diet helps, and as time goes on and you read the fact sheets here, you should feel more positive and have a good quality of life. Lots of us have had AF for many years and some are in their 90’s. Ask all the questions that are worrying you. This is a great forum for putting your mind at rest and has helped me through some difficult times. All the best on your journey.

hi

Just take it slow.

It took me 3 months to get the right dosage.

I started on 50mg morning and night and it seemed fine.

My cardiologist put it up to 100mg morning Abs night and honestly couldn’t even control my legs. I was nauseous, shaky and just felt so tired.

Then went back to original dose but I think i had withdrawals from the higher dose, so I had all these symptoms again maybe even worse.

I’m now on quarter of a tablet so 12.5mg morning and night and everything has settled down now.

But to get there it took 3 months of being unwell.

It really knocked me around.

Keep an eye on your symptoms and stay in touch with your GP regularly just to make sure your dosage is right for you.

I am so sorry about this. I had to stop taking all Beta Blockers because all of them made me extremely tired, worn down, very slow heart rate. I didn’t have energy for the smallest task. I weaned off very slowly as not to have rebound hypertension while also taking Taurine . I am not telling anyone to do this however this is what I did. I have been better every since. Research the benefits of taking Taurine and if so led bring it to yours doctor’s attention. Blessings
