Do get back to whoever prescribed and tell them no change. You may need to wait longer or you may need different antibiotic. Don't delay in asking for professional advice.

I had cellulitis following infected mosquito bite in leg many years ago. I was hospitalised for a week as it was tracking up my leg. They tried different antibiotics etc until they found one which worked and certainly didn't give each one 7 days to work!

Thank you,am on flucloxacillin 500500mg. As the surgery was short of GPs due to ill health was seen prescribed by a locum who told me he was not a Dr.

This is a community to discuss heart related problems. However if you go to the general HealthUnlocked search facility and search for 'cellulitis' there are some related posts which come up which might help you.

Does it really matter that much ? This lady also has a heart problem which could be affected as well.

It does if she is more likely to get her question answered in full by running a search across the whole site which is what I suggested.

The replies I have received are exactly what I had hoped for

I had similar infection around the area they took the vein on my leg. Needed a second dose and more or less cleared it.

How long had you had the cellulitis before you got the tablets ? First time I had it I didn't realise what it was until it spread from my shin down the sides of my leg then I saw the GP . If I remember correctly it was 4 tablets a day same strength as yours for 7 days . Took 5 days before I noticed it wasn't so red ,raised and was shrinking ..

Second time I had it knew what it was straight away and got the antibiotics and it didn't spread. Both times it was after I had fallen into a wall and hit my shin . I didn't realise how dangerous cellulitis is if not treated .

Same here, like yourself only noticed as it spread down leg,was seen and antibiotic prescribed.Only difference never damaged my leg.

Thank you tomorrow fifth day so hopefully will see sign of shrinkage.shrinkage.Yes a very serious, dangerous condition if not caught quickly.quickly.Many thanks.

Fingers crossed you will notice a different. At least you know what to look out for if you get it again.

I didn't break the skin but apparently it only needs a smaller than a pin size hole for the bacteria to get in .

I am just recovering from cellulitis after a mosquito bite on holiday in Turkey. I was admitted to hospital overnight and put on a drip antibiotics, steroids etc. fortunately I was discharged the following morning and allowed to fly home later that day.

I was seen back home for dressings and my doctor prescribed different antibiotics I was told to keep my legs up to help get the swelling down which it did. I am still having dressings on one of the bites but finished my antibiotics and am feeling fine.

It does take time to clear up my course was a week but I think the drip in hospital definitely helped. Just watch out for any deterioration and a temperature and go back immediate if your worried.

I had a hospital bill equating to £2000 which I hope my insurance will pay back!

Ouch on the cellulitis and the bill. You should get it back from the insurance. Didn't realise a mosquito bite could cause cellulitis. Learn something new everyday .

I had cellulitis after ankle surgery (outpatient day surgery) 13 years ago. I ended up going back to hospital 2 days later and got admitted. I received a day's worth of IV antibiotics and sent home the 2nd day with pill antibiotics. I don't remember the type or dosage. How they determined I was healing was they drew a marker line around my ankle infection and watched it over 24 hours. That told them the antibiotics were working (or not). I was on antibiotics for at least 7-10 days. My ankle was inflamed for a long time, but the marker line told the Drs that the antibiotics were working.

I had the same issue from the wasp string 2 years ago. flucloxacillin did not work as I had used the cream beforehand and must have got resistant (at least that is what the GP said): they switched my antibiotic after 5 days and within 24 hours there was improvement so I would go back.
