This week I had my appointment with the Cardiologist with suspected AF. At the appointment it was confirmed I had AF but the main problem that has been found is a Stiff Heart. According to the Cardiologist there was nothing that could be done. All the right medications had been given and I should change my lifestyle. In regards the AF he has referred to another Cadiologist to see if there is a need/not to improve my condition.
Has anyone been diagnosed with this condition and what treatment if any was given.
Thank you

Hi. Stiff Heart is called Cardiomypathy and details of this can be on the NHS website and BHF. The condition is the heart contracts but then does not expend fast enough causing the heart not to function currently. The only treatment given to me is blood thinners, water tablets, diet tablets to reduce my appetite. Along with the medication I have been advised to reduce my weight, exercise, very limited alcohol or better still none at all.
Apart from above there is no other treatment. I await an appointment with another Cardiologist with a view if there is any treatment that can be done for the AF.
I suspect he’s referring to Left Ventricular Hypertrophy. For various reasons (including genetics in some cases) the walls of the ventricle thicken and harden such that they don’t relax sufficiently to receive a “full” load of blood from the atrium after each contraction/heart beat. Good luck.
Yes with the medication and the referral to another AF cardiologist and a six month referral back to the Cardiologist I have seen. GP to keep a constant health check
