Are there any other medications you can take instead of Asprin(coated)? My doctor says not. But I'm getting horrible stomach pains!

Hi there!Sorry to hear you are having these problems. I was prescribed aspirin but it caused acid reflux flare ups. Then prescribed Clopidogrel but that has seriously aggravated my IBS. Spoke to pharmacist last week and he suggested going back on aspirin.

I am on a different BP med since last time so hopefully may be ok. I think I read on here there is something else but like you my GP says there isn't. Apparently the rule is aspirin for primary care and Clopidogrel for secondary.

Would also be interested in other people's experience. Good luck !

I'm still on DAPT and take both Clopdogrel and Aspirin. I take Famotidine to help protect my tummy (lazaprozole played merry hell with me) but do switch to enteric coated aspirin every now and again if I'm felling uncomfortable. I checked with Cardiologist and Cardiac Nurses at rehab and they were happy with this

Have you been prescribed one of the omeprozols to counteract the effects of the aspirin. I take pantoprozol and have had no problems with acid reflux despite taking coated aspirin

I'm on Pantoprazol.

You haven't said whether you are actually taking enteric coated aspirin as an alternative to dispersible which is the usual from of this medication. If you aren't then you should trial it. But if you are taking coated low dose aspirin and are getting stomach upsets and need to take an anti-platelet (like aspirin) then that is something your GP should be exploring with you either by perhaps trialling a PPI (like lansoprazole) to see if that helps or even considering whether you have a gastro related condition which is causing you problems. Either way you should not be struggling with possible medication side effects, on the basis that medication is here to help us not make our lives a misery, and your GP should be trying to help you.

Thanks for all he replies. In my own case I have osteopenia so PPImeds not good may be something to bear in mind for some of us.

I was about to reply, but Lowerfield has said more or less exactly what I would have written.
