Just recently been diagnosed with Hypertension after a GP Healthcheck. Put on Amlodipine, and it has, frankly, made me feel awful. I've had a mobility disability since birth, been in and out of hospital, and now this. It's getting me down.
This has hit me hard, and is stressing my wife as well.

When we are already dealing with one thing and then something else comes along I think most of us get down and that is normal to feel that way
Not sure how long you have been taking the BP meds for as sometimes it can take a few weeks for us to adjust to them but if you have given them a good go and they are making you feel like this as already said I would talk with your Doctor and see what other BP meds they could try you on that won't make you feel this way so try and stay positive that there will be more options for you to try
They didn't agree with me either. I went back to see the doctor and was taken off those and put on Ramipril. My advice would be to go back to see your doctor. Good luck.
so sorry to hear that your not feeling too good at the moment. I was given Amlodipine which made me feel terrible. GP then changed prescription to Ramipril and although they controlled BP better I still didn’t feel well on them. After seeing GP again and getting nowhere I paid to see a cardiologist privately and he prescribed Valsartan which I have been taking for a little over a year and feel much better.
it has a lot of side effects left me struggling to walk as my legs swell so much they ached i am now bisoprol and having no problems you gp need to change it hope you get things sorted
As people have said, there are many different medicines available to control BP and the Calcium Channel Blocker, you have been prescribed, is just one of them. For years, I was on Lercanidipine, a similar, CCB plus Candesartan, an ARB. Even though I was on them at the highest doses and a cardiologist and a kidney specialist respectively approved of them being prescribed for me, my BP was all of the place and the CCB seems to have caused gum problems - a recognised side effect. Both classes of drug are modern(ish) drugs and what NICE suggest for hypertension. However, I am now on a beta blocker and a potassium sparing diuretic at the lowest dosages. These medicines have been around for many, many years. My BP is well controlled and I have no side effects. I am sure you will find something suitable especially if your GP is prepared try something different to what NICE says.
I've had hypertension for many years now and had to try several medications and even changed some that worked for years then began giving me reactions. It may take time to find the right medication that works for you.
I'm in the same boat as you. I've had hypertension for many years and I was given Losartan, but now because of my angina they gave CCB and Amlodipine and my leg and feet swell up. So waiting to go back to my GP to sort out my medication, as i know now it because of the Amlodipine side affects. Hope everything gets sorted for you.
